AU men’s indoor track and field competes at RIT

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's indoor track and field team competed Friday at the RIT Brown and Orange Invitational. There were no team scores, but two AU relay teams qualified for next month's ECAC indoor championships.
The team of sophomore
Tchabelino Azimyt (New York, NY/Philip A. Randolf), senior
Andre McCloud (Bath, NY/Haverling), junior
Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) and sophomore
Gregory Matos (Bronx, NY/ELLIS Prep) won the 4X200-meter relay with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:32.56. Matos, sophomore
Ethan Foster (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) and seniors
Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing) and
Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) qualified for the ECACs with their third-place finish in the 4X400-meter relay (3:27.48).
McCloud had the fastest run in the 60-meter dash preliminary heats, with an ECAC-qualifying 7.04 seconds, but did not finish his finals race.
Other top performers for the AU men were: Matos, 10
th in the 200-meter dash (23.54) and ninth in the 400-meter dash (51.83); Foster, seventh in the 500-meter run (1:09.05); Rummel, fifth in the 1,000-meter run (2:37.40); freshman
Kevin Dixon (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen), ninth in the 3,000-meter run (9:42.64); sophomore
Ian Bishop (Bronx, NY/Bronxwood Prep), eighth in the shot put (13.43 meters); and freshman
Jeffrey Nunez (Wurtsboro, NY/Ellenville), ninth in the weight throw (14.56 meters).
Alfred is in action next on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and March 1, at the New York State championship meet in Canton, NY, hosted by St. Lawrence University.
