Stevens Rolls to 19-1 Win in Season-Opener

HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 24, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team rolled to a 19-1 win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent Monday night at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
Stevens improves to 1-0 overall, while the Dolphins drop to 0-1.
The Ducks scored the first 11 goals of the game and never looked back, jumping out to a 2-0 edge less than 30 seconds into the game thanks to markers from senior
Kara Rafferty (Bayshore, N.Y.) and sophomore
Erika Wilcox (Baldwinsville, N.Y.).
Wilcox scored again 1:34 into the action and the goals kept coming, with junior

Mariel Haubrich (Ocean City, N.J.) all netting first-half tallies.

Julia Loria (New Providence, N.J.) combined to make two saves and allow just one goal against. Prall earned the win and is now 1-0 on the season
The Ducks finished the game with a 42-5 edge in shots and a 23-9 margin in ground balls. Stevens was a perfect 6-for-6 on its clear attempts and converted eight of its 14 free-position shots into goals.
Haubrich scored four goals to lead the Ducks, also getting two ground balls and two draw controls. Rafferty had four points (three goals, one assist), two ground balls and four draw controls, while Wilcox had three goals, one assist, a game-high five draw controls and two ground balls. Hughes finished with three goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers, DeLuca had two goals and two caused turnovers, and Mastrogiacomo had one goal and one assist. Dragoni had a pair of tallies as well for the Ducks, with Kelley compiling two points (one goal, one assist). Freshman
Kathleen Kalbian (Cheshire, Conn.) led Stevens with three caused turnovers, also getting two draw controls and two ground balls, and the Stevens defense was not tested much at all throughout the game.
The Ducks will visit Farmingdale on Wednesday in their first road test of the season and will return home Saturday afternoon at 11 a.m. for a game against Montclair State University.
