AU men’s tennis team opens spring season with win at Oswego

OSWEGO, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team opened its 2014 spring schedule with a 7-2 win at Oswego State on Sunday.
With the victory, AU improves to 3-1 on the 2013-14 season. The Saxons played three matches in the fall, defeating Lycoming and Oswego and losing to Hamilton.
On Sunday at Oswego, Alfred got singles wins from sophomore
Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa), 6-0, 6-1 in first singles; senior
Peter Benoit (Gasport, NY/Barker), 6-0, 6-3 in second singles; junior
Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside), 7-5, 7-5 in third singles; senior
Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence), 6-1, 6-2 in fourth singles; and senior
Eric Teller (Granville, NY/Granville), 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in sixth singles.
AU won two of three doubles matches. Doud and Benoit won first doubles, 8-2; Nonnenmann and Graham claimed second doubles, 8-2.
The Saxons play next on March 23 with two matches at the indoor courts in Olean, NY: at 11 a.m. against Penn State-Behrend and at 4 p.m. against Pitt-Bradford.
