Taylor Pierson named ECAC Athlete of the Week
Taylor Pierson, sophomore on the Nazareth College indoor track and field team, has been named Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the period that ended Feb. 23.
Pierson, of Wellsburg, N.Y. and a graduate of Southside High School, shattered her own school record by placing first in the long jump at last Friday's RIT Invitational. Her leap of 5.73 meters (18 feet, 9 3/4 inches) was more than eight inches farther than her previous best, set last season.
Pierson represented Nazareth at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet last season and later earned All-American honors by finishing eighth in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Her jump last Friday ranks her fifth nationally.
Pierson and the Golden Flyers compete again Friday and Saturday at the NYSCTC meet at St. Lawrence.
