Wiatr Leads UC Women T&F Teams at Brockport Invite

Brockport, NY (2-8-14) – The Utica College women's track and field teams competed Saturday at the Golden Eagle Invitational hosted by The College at Brockport. The competition was an individual exhibition with no team scoring.

The Pioneers will have two more exhibition meets before post-season play begins. UC heads back to Clinton, NY next Saturday, Feb. 15th for the Hamilton Invite (11 a.m.) at the Margaret Scott Bundy Field House before traveling to Rochester, NY on Friday, Feb. 21st for the Orange and Brown Invitational hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology (4 p.m.) at the Gordon Field House.

Sophomore Sarah Wiatr (Poland, NY/West Canada Valley) posted a first place finish in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 11.51 meters and moved into sixth place on the NCAA Division III Qualifying List.

Senior speedster Anastasia Bowden (Monticello, NY/Monticello) placed third in the 200-meter dash with a school-record time of 26.36 while classmate senior Jaimee Balloni (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W.Baker) finished third in the 1000-meter run with a clock of 3:06.49. Senior Samantha Prendergast (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) and freshman Abby Schaible (Duanseburg, NY/Duanseburg) took second and third in the 500-meter dash with times of 1:20.99 and 1:23.40.

Two UC relay teams including the 4x400 and the distance medley relay teams qualified for ECAC's as both squads placed second. Prendergast, Bowden, and Wiatr teamed up with freshman Brenna Stewart (Southborough, MA/Algonquin) in the 4x400 meter relay clocking a program-best time of 4:05.77 while Prendergast, Balloni, Schaible and senior Katie Day (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) recorded a time of 12:55.57 in the distance medley.

Post-season play opens up at the end of February when Utica heads to St. Lawrence University for the 2014 NYSCTC Championships. The two-day event runs Friday, Feb. 28th through Saturday, March 1st and will be held at the Newell Field House in Canton, NY. Friday's events kick off at 3 p.m. while Saturday's are set for 10 a.m.
