School Records Fall

Empire 8 track and field teams turned in several school record performances on the first day of the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championship (NYSCTC) Friday in Potsdam, N.Y.

ALFRED
AU senior Rebecca Graudons claimed her fourth consecutive state title in the pole vault on Friday. Her winning height of 3.60 meters broke her own school record of 3.58 meters and also broke the state championship meet record of 3.58 meters. Graudons had set both records when she won the state indoor championship in 2012. On Friday, she also broke the Newell Fieldhouse record of 3.47 meters and tied the NYSCTC record.

Alfred junior Miasia Hillman finished first in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash. Her time of 7.84 seconds beat the school-record 7.88 seconds she set last weekend at Cornell University. Hillman's time also ties the NYSCTC and state championship meet records established in 2012 by Utica's Lauren DeLude.

Hillman will attempt to win a state title in the 60-meter dash in Saturday's finals. Hillman will also compete in Saturday's finals of the 200-meter dash after finishing first in Friday's preliminaries with a time of 25.98 seconds.

AU senior Chelsea Hall placed fifth in Friday's pentathlon. She posted a 10.02 second 60-meter hurdles, 1.36-meter high jump, 8.03-meter shot put, 4.68-meter long jump, and 2:43.32 800-meter run. She finished with 2,588 points, just five points off the school record.

ITHACA
Freshman Natalie Meyer  won the pentathlon with a 2,955-point performance and sophomore Kristen Pompey placed seventh with 2,500 points. Meyer was the top finisher in the high jump, clearing an ECAC-qualifying height of 1.66 meters and won the long jump with a mark of 4.96 meters.

The Bombers had four earn all-state honors in the pole vault. Junior Alex Rechen cleared 3.45 meters to place third and senior Shannon Meehan followed in fourth with a height of 3.30 meters, both met the ECAC standard. Freshmen Lexi Clavet  and Olivia Paolano earned points with fifth- and eighth-place finishes of 3.15 meters and 3.00 meters, respectively.

Three Ithaca student-athletes placed in the long jump. Junior Emilia Scheemaker earned bronze with a mark of 5.30 meters and classmate Christine Benway followed in sixth with a 5.16-meter leap. Both were ECAC-good marks. Sophomore Emily Williams snagged a point with an eighth-place finish of 4.97 meters.

Freshman Brandy Smith had an ECAC-qualifying heave of 11.96 meters in the shot to place fourth. Junior Corrine Taylor placed eighth with a toss of 11.06 meters. 

Junior Alexa Rick finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 18:10.85 to qualify for the ECAC Indoor Championships.

Ithaca was the runner-up in the distance medley relay (12:27.05) and finished seventh in the 4x200 (1:48.39). Both relays clocked ECAC qualifying times. 

The Bombers had a trio of ECAC qualifiers in the preliminaries. Harmony Graves hit two, clocking an 8.03 finish in the 60 dash and a 26.23 finish in the 200. Sophomore Eliza Dewart joined her as an ECAC qualifier in the 200 crossing the finish line in 26.76.

NAZARETH
Sophomores Gabrielle LeBihan and Taylor Pierson each set records at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championship meet, hosted by St. Lawrence. LeBihan was sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:11.54, which broke her time of 18:48.6 that she ran at the Empire 8 meet on February 1st. Pierson, meanwhile, ran her 60-meter dash prelims in :8:13, which edged her school record of :8.15 that she recorded at the Empire 8 meet. Pierson's time was seventh, and it qualified her for Saturday's finals.

In addition to setting her school-record during the 60-meter prelims, Pierson claimed first in the long jump with a mark of 5.54 meters (18 ft., 2 1/4 in.). Pierson's school-record was 18 feet, 9 3/4 inches, which she recorded last week at RIT. Junior Hannah Brackley qualified third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 60.72 seconds. Brackley's school-record in the event is :59.53, which she ran about two weeks ago. Brackley also qualified for the finals in the 200-meter event with a seventh-place time of :26.68. It was only .01 slower than her :26.67 time at the Empire 8 meet earlier this month.

Junior Chisi Sibongile and freshman Emily Thompson both added seventh-place finishes. Sibongile was seventh in the pole vault with a mark of three meters (9 ft., 10 in.), and Thompson finished only seconds behind LeBihan in the 5,000-meters with a time of 18:18.24.

Nazareth's 4 x 200-meter relay, consisting of Pierson, Chisi, sophomore Amanda Entress, and Brackley, placed fifth with a time of 1:48.03. The time was only .02 slower than their school record that they ran last week at RIT.


ST. JOHN FISHER 
Allison Corretore captured a fourth place finish in the pentathlon after becoming the first-ever female pentathlete in Fisher history.  Corretore earned a first place finish in the 60 meter dash and went on to place a second place finish in both the shot put and the long jump portions of the event. 
 
Melissa Vaughn set a new personal-best in the 60 meter hurdles after finishing the event in 9.66 which assured her a spot in tomorrow's finale.
 
The Cardinals set two new personal records in the 400 as Chelsea Cleveland sprinted across the finish in 62.37, while Morgan Mastin qualified for tomorrow's finale with a personal-best time of 61.68.
 
Danyelle Redmond took home a sixth place finish in the pole vault with a distance of 3.00 meters, while the distance medley team of Sarah Coon, Kaylee Zbytek, Kaitlin Rizzo and Sydney Sacccone secured a seventh place finish after finishing in 12:55.72.
 
Paige Willson took sixth place in the shot put with a tally of 11.28 and Lisa Knab rounded out the action in the field with a mark of 4.96 In the long jump.
 
UTICA
Senior Anastasia Bowden currently ranks fourth in the 400 meter dash with a preliminary time of 60.28 and she also clocked a watch of 26.47 in the 200 meter dash as she finished fifth.
