Back On Track, Stevens Ends Skid With 7-2 Win

CLAREMONT, C.A. (March 11, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team ended their two match losing streak on Tuesday with a 7-2 win over University of Rochester.
The win moves Stevens to 3-5, while Rochester drops to 6-3.
The move to switch up the doubles teams paid off for the Ducks as they stormed out to a 3-0 doubles sweep for the first time this year. Sophomore Matthew Heinrich and freshman Antonio Perich went up 7-4 at No. 1 before Julian Danko and Jonny Baker broke serve to inch closer at 7-6. The Ducks young duo responded though, breaking the serve and winning 8-6.
At No. 2, freshmen Charles Drake and Michael Feldman held the lead throughout and won 8-4, followed by Sophomore Ben Foran and sophomore Tyler Tisdale finishing the sweep with an 8-6 win over Ian Baranowski and Tony Zhao.
The Ducks kept their foot on the gas heading to the singles as Perich knocked off Tony Zhao 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5, followed by a win for Heinrich at No. 1 over Ben Shapiro, 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the win. Feldman extended the win streak at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Danko.
Rochester got on the board at No. 6 when Ian Baranowski beat freshman Brett Derrington in a tiebreak, and followed it up with another tiebreak win at No. 2 for Jonny Baker over Foran. Stevens wrapped-up the match with a win at No. 4 for Drake, 7-6, 6-2.
The Ducks will be off on Wednesday before concluding their California trip on Thursday with a match against No. 14 University of Texas-Tyler.
