Colby Gee Drives In Seven Runs To Lead Ithaca Baseball Past Occidental
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Ithaca College baseball team won its second straight game behind a season-best 24 hits in a 16-5 win at Occidental on Wednesday afternoon in California.
Colby Gee had four hits for Ithaca and
Luke Stark,
Brian Burns and
Cameron Oathout had three hits each to lead Ithaca at the plate.
The Bombers did most of their damage in the early innings as Ithaca scored four times in each of the first two innings and added seven more runs in the fourth. Ithaca improved to 4-3 overall this season and will conclude its spring trip with a game Thursday against California Lutheran.
In Ithaca's first inning, Gee delivered a two-run single to bring in
Tim Henry and Stark and
Stephen Yanchus singled to drive in one run, and another run scored on a fielding error in the outfield.
The second-inning rally took place almost entirely with two outs. With two outs and a runner on first, Henry walked and Gee followed with a three-run homer. That was followed by a single from Burns and back-to-back singles by Yanchus and Oathout to bring in Ithaca's eighth run.
Occidental scored single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings and added three more in the fifth.
The big seven-run fourth inning was capped by two more RBIs from Gee on a double down the left-field line. Ithaca totaled eight hits in the inning.
Gee's big day saw him go 4-for-4 with seven runs driven in and three runs scored with a double and a home run. Five Ithaca pitchers saw action, and the group of
Matt Colbert, Robert Contegni and
Chris Anderson pitched shutout baseball over the last four innings of the game.
