Naz Wins; Ithaca Fall in 2OT

Nazareth used a four-goal scoring run in the first half and a five-goal scoring run in the second half to outscore Westfield State 10-5 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game played in Clermont, Florida on Thursday evening. Freshmen
Jamie Martin and
Gabrielle Charles each tallied three goals to lead the Golden Flyers' offensive attack. With her goals on Thursday, Martin has five goals in Nazareth's first three games, and Charles' goals were her first of the season.
With the victory, Nazareth improves to 2-1 overall. Following their loss, the Owls fall to 1-3 overall.
The Golden Flyers took command in the first half with the first four goals and nearly blanking Westfield State through the opening 30 minutes. After over 10 minutes of scoreless action, Martin recorded a pair of goals in a 45 second span. Her first goal was on a free position opportunity 10:46 into regulation, and her second was an unassisted tally. Charles and junior

Carly Gates set up the scoring chance for Gray's goal.
The Owls' Meg Griffin spoiled a perfect opening half for Nazareth's defense as she scored with one second remaining in the period.
In the second half, junior
Brooke Sullivan scored her first goal of the contest just 1:21 into the stanza. Griffin and Blair Smith answered with consecutive goals on free position shots to trim the Golden Flyers' advantage to 5-3 with still over 26 minutes of regulation to play. Nazareth answered with its decisive five-goal scoring run spanning nearly 20 minutes to secure the victory. Martin scored an unassisted goal, which was the eventual game-winner. Junior
Brianna Mancini, Charles, and Sullivan each converted a free position opportunity to stretch Nazareth's lead to 9-3, which was followed by Charles' unassisted goal with 6:01 to play in regulation.
Griffin added a pair of goals in the final six minutes, and she finished with a game-high four goals. Griffin entered the game with a team-leading nine goals and was the reigning Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
For Nazareth's offense, Sullivan's two goals now gives her a team-high seven goals in only three games, while Martin has scored in each of the Golden Flyers' three games. She ranks second on the team with five goals.
Nazareth finished with advantages in shots (29-16) and ground balls collected (25-20). Martin had a team-high four shots on goal, while Gates and sophomore
Kayla McKayeach scooped four ground balls. Griffin finished with a game-high five shots on goal for the Owls.
Senior
Tara Prosak earned the victory in Nazareth's goal with three goals allowed and eight saves in 53:59 of action. Junior
Ashley Kirch had two goals against in her 6:01 of playing time. For the Owls, Mimi Khampaeng played 58:36 and allowed all 10 of the Golden Flyers' goals in the loss. She finished with a game-high 11 saves.
Gettysburg 13, Ithaca 12
The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (1-3) took sixth-ranked Gettysburg (4-0) to double overtime Thursday afternoon at the National Training Center, dropping a 13-12 decision to the Bullets.
The loss was Ithaca's third to a top-10 team this season. The Bombers have suffered their losses by a combined six goals.
Ithaca held a 6-4 gap at the half, but Gettysburg outscored the Bombers, 7-5, in the second to send action to overtime knotted at 11. Following the first overtime in which the teams traded scores, Gettysburg was the first to tally in the sudden victory second overtime to remain undefeated on the season.
Ithaca had its chances. The Bombers were unsuccessful on free position attempts with 13 seconds lingering in the first overtime and another two minutes into the sudden victory second OT.
The Bombers won 18 of 30 draws, but were a cold 1-of-7 in free position shots. The Bullets owned a 33-25 gap in shots and a 17-12 advantage in ground balls.
Sophomore
Ally Runyon led all players with a five-point performance on four goals and an assist. Junior
Molly Fischer chipped in three scores and an assist, while junior
Natalie Lang recorded two goals and dished out an assist. Sophomore
Riley Marion added two goals. Senior
Becky Guzzo, who accounted for Ithaca's other score, dished out a Bomber-best two assists.
Fischer won five draws on the day and Lang,
Anya Eckhardt and
Laura Scalzi each tallied three. Junior
Niki Standera scooped up four ground balls. Rookie
Emily Ross suffered the loss in goal making 12 stops.
Gettysburg opened all scoring with back-to-back goals. Guzzo fed Runyon and Lang just a minute apart to deadlock action at 2-2. The Bullets answered with two more, but the Bombers powered to a 6-4 halftime gap with four unanswered in the final 11 minutes of the first.
Gettysburg netted two to open the latter half and tie the game at 6. Lang and Marion went unassisted to inch Ithaca ahead, 8-6, at 24:27. The Bullets went on a 3-0 run, to which Ithaca responded with two straight for a 10-9 advantage at 11:43. Two more Gettysburg shots found the back of the net, but it was a Runyon score at 7:26 that sent the game to extra periods.
The Bullets scored first in overtime, but Runyon found Fischer to even the game at 12 at 1:43. Gettysburg ended the game with the first sudden-victory score.
