THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The Ithaca College baseball team wrapped up its spring trip with an 8-4 loss at Cal Lutheran on Thursday evening in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams. The 12th-ranked Cal Lutheran Kingsmen improved to 10-3 on the season while No. 15 Ithaca fell to 4-4 overall.

The teams traded runs in the early going, as the Kingsmen took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Ithaca responded with the game-tying run in the top of the second. Christian Brown singled to bring in Stephen Yanchus with the run.

Cal Lutheran regained the lead in the bottom of the second on a three-run homer, but Ithaca answered with a run in the top of the third on an RBI single from Yanchus that scored Colby Gee.

The Kingsmen built a 7-2 lead and never trailed again. Ithaca added a single run in the fifth inning on a Burns hit that brought in Tim Henry and one more in the ninth on a two-out bases-loaded walk by Josh Savacool. That brought the tying run to the plate but the rally ended there.

Benji Parkes started and pitched into the fourth inning. He allowed seven earned runs with five strikeouts. Logan Barer worked 2.1 inning, and Zach Pidgeon threw the final two innings and allowed no hits with just one walk.

Colby Gee and Tim Henry had three hits each for Ithaca. Henry is carrying a six-game hitting streak and has 13 hits in that time. Gee has hit safely in five of Ithaca's last six games with 14 hits on that surge. Yanchus had two hits for the Bombers with an RBI and run scored.

Ithaca returns east and is scheduled to visit Cortland on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
