Cornelius In Contention At NCAAs After Day One

Through the first four events of the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, St. John Fisher College sophomore Devin Cornelius is clearly in the thick of things.  The championship is being hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.

Cornelius, the first athlete in Fisher's three-year history of track & field to qualify for the NCAA Championship, is in eighth place over with 2,764 points, just 30 points shy of sixth place overall.

Cornelius placed fourth out of 15 competitors in the both the 60-meter hurdles (7.13 seconds – 837 points) and the high jump (1.90 meters – 714 points).  The sophomore also cleared 6.17 meters in the long jump (624 points) and posted 11.71 meters in the shot put (589 points).

Cornelius will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday and will compete in the final three events: pole vault, 60-meter hurdles and the 1,000 meters.
