Ithaca Wins; Stevens Falls

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Ithaca College men's tennis team swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles positions for a convicing 8-1 win over Penn State-Harrisburg on Thursday morning at Hilton Head Middle School.

In doubles action, Ithaca's tandem of Justin Levine and Zach Passman were 8-5 winners at first doubles in the closest match of the doubles portion. Chris Hayes and Griffin Reid won 8-0 at third doubles to start things for Ithaca and David Andersen and Wes Davis won 8-3 at

All five of Ithaca's singles wins came in straight sets. Reid, Hayes, Andersen, Zach Passman and Davis picked up the victories.

Ithaca will conclude its spring trip with a match against Missouri Valley College at 8 a.m. Friday.



Texas-Tyler 6, Stevens 3
Freshman Matthew Heinrich and sophomore Ben Foran got the wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively, but the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team dropped the match 6-3 to No. 14 University of Texas-Tyler on Thursday.

 

The loss drops Stevens to 3-6 while UT-Tyler moved to 6-2.

 

The Ducks fell behind early in doubles when Heinrich and freshman Antonio Perich fell to the junior tandem of Harry Kelleher and Chris Wooton 8-4. UT-Tyler also took the win at No. 2 over the freshmen team of Charles Drake and Michael Feldman with sophomore Daniel Budd and senior Ryan Spencer.

 

Stevens salvaged a doubles point at No. 3 thanks to a come-from-behind effort from Foran and sophomore Tyler Tisdale after being down 5-7 earlier in the match. UT-Tyler featured another senior in the match in Ramon Martinez paired with sophomore Justin Randell.

 

Down 2-1, Stevens dropped the next one at No. 6 when senior Edward Timponi beat Tisdale 6-0, 6-0 before Spencer followed that up with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Perich to extend the lead to 4-1. The Ducks mounted a comeback with Heinrich's win at No. 1 followed by Foran's 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2, but UT-Tyler ended the streak with Kellner's win over Feldman at No. 3.
