Another Tough Day for E8 Men's Lax
Farmingdale 12, Hartwick 7
The visiting Hartwick men's lacrosse team rallied to make it a one-goal game midway through the third period but host Farmingdale State outscored the Hawks 6-2 the rest of the way to come out with a 12-7 victory on Saturday afternoon. 'Wick is now 0-3 to start the season while the Rams improve to 2-2.
Only one goal was scored in the first quarter which was by Farmingdale's Tyler Rifice. The Hawks evened it up at 1-1 on a Cody Ciolino unassisted goal. Rifice responded for the Rams with his second score of the day to put Farmingdale State ahead by one. 'Wick again had an answer on a Cody Petillo unassisted goal. The Rams ended the second quarter on a 3-0 run to go ahead 5-2 at halftime.
In the third frame, a slashing penalty by
Kevin Rourke gave the Rams a man-up opportunity that they would take advantage of as Ryan McArdle cashed in to put FSU ahead 6-2 at 13:26. The Hawks began to chip away at the lead with three straight goals, including two man-up scores from Zach Gropper, to get to within 6-5 at 7:29.
The Rams scored their seventh goal of the day 23 seconds later and maintained the two-score advantage for nearly six minutes of the period. Riffice scored once at 1:41 and a second time at 1:20 to make it 9-5. Ciolino's goal at 1:02 narrowed it to 9-6.
It was all Farmingdale in the final quarter as the Rams scored three times to put the game out of reach. Roy Simmons scored the game's last goal with 4:43 left to play to complete the scoring.
Swarthmore 16, Elmira 8
The Elmira College men's lacrosse team (0-3) fell to Swarthmore College (2-3) 16-8 on the road today.
Brady Richards '14 led the Soaring Eagles with four goals and three grounds balls in the loss.
Swarthmore started the game with seven unanswered goals in the first quarter. Swarthmore upped their lead to 8-0, 1:29 into the second quarter. EC then regrouped 1:35 later as
Dustin Gatt '14 scored an unassisted goal. With 6:49 left in the second quarter,
Brady Richards scored his first goal of the game off a pass from
David Evert '14. The Purple and Gold cut Swarthmore's lead to 8-3 after Evert passed the ball to
Griffin Foley '17 who slipped the ball past Swarthmore's netminder. Swarthmore closed out the second quarter with two more goals to take a 10-3 lead.
Swarthmore kicked off the third quarter with two goals, with one coming off a man-up advantage.

Myles Richards '17. 1:02 later, Swarthmore increased their lead to 13-4. The EC men responded with two more goals to end the third quarter.

Christian Archambeault '14 to chip into Swarthmore's 13-6 lead.
EC kicked off the fourth quarter with a goal 58 seconds into the quarter when Gatt scored his second goal of the day. 3:10 later, Swarthmore scored a goal to up their lead to 14-7.
Brady Richards scored his fourth goal of the game with 9:24 left in regulation play. Swarthmore closed out the game with two more goals, to finish with a 16-8 lead.
Mike Knowlton '14 started in net for the Soaring Eagles and made six saves while
Wyatt Katsos '17 tallied one save in the last 7:15 seconds of the game.
Cabrini 20, Nazareth 11
Nazareth sophomore
Troy Haefele tied Saturday's game at seven goals apiece with three seconds remaining in the first half, however, sixth-ranked Cabrini scored five straight goals in the third quarter to take control of Saturday's non-conference men's lacrosse game. The host Cavaliers outscored the Golden Flyers 13-4 in the second stanza to earn the victory. Seniors

Hunter Burdick each had two goals for Nazareth.
With the loss, the Golden Flyers slip to 2-3 overall. With the win, Cabrini remains undefeated and improves to 6-0, which is the Cavaliers' best start in school history. Saturday was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
After Haefele's game-tying goal to end the opening half, the momentum swung in Cabrini's favor 3:26 into the third quarter when freshman
Joe Fahy and senior
Chris Aycockwere each whistled for a penalty, giving Cabrini a two-man advantage. The Cavaliers' Damian Sobieski scored just moments into the man-up opportunity. Cabrini added four additional goals over the next 10 minutes to claim a 12-7 lead. With 10 seconds to play in the period, Aycock found the back of the Cavaliers' net to cut Nazareth's deficit to four goals heading into the final quarter.

Morrisville 11, Alfred 5
The Alfred University men's lacrosse team was dealt an 11-5 loss by visiting Morrisville State, Saturday afternoon at Yunevich Stadium. This non-conference loss moves the Saxons to 2-2 on the season.
Despite AU holding a 41-33 shot advantage, the Mustangs outscored the Saxons each quarter and never trailed throughout the match.

Brett Carroll netted a hat-trick (three goals) and picked up two ground balls to pace Alfred. Junior attacker

Nolan Jessop caused a team-high three turnovers and scooped up a team-best five ground balls.

Kean 16, Utica 5
The Utica College men's lacrosse team fell to host Kean College, 16-9, Saturday in non-conference action. Senior
Scott Baron led the Pioneers with five points on the day.
Despite finishing the first half tied 2-2, the Cougars turned up the pressure in the second stanza, outscoring UC 8-3 over the next two quarters. Baron netted three goals and added two assists as Utica's top player. Junior transfer
Christian Reiller and freshman
Ross Cree also chipped in with two goals and an assist each.
Trent Jacobs and
Andrew Jamieson capped off the scoring for the Pioneers and
Andrew DiOrio made seven saves in the loss. UC outshot Kean 49-45 on the day, including a 13-7 advantage in the first quarter.
Kean had three players score five or more points, and goalie Dino Vitale made 23 saves in the win.
Calvin 12, Houghton 5
Houghton men's lacrosse met Calvin College halfway for a neutral site game in Ohio, but found themselves on the wrong end of a 12-5 score on Saturday.
Sean Daigler led the Highlanders with two goals and two assists. Paul Chapman added the other three Houghton goals.
Josh Haingray allowed the first four goals, with Gabriel Browning playing the rest of the game in net, allowing eight goals and recording 13 saves.
Denison 19, Stevens 17
The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team wound up on the wrong end of a 19-17 shootout with No. 8 Denison University in a non-conference contest on Saturday in Towson, Md. at Hargaden Field.
Stevens (1-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Denison (5-0) in the opening 6:17 of the game, but the Big Red ran off seven of the next nine goals in the quarter to take a 7-5 edge after one period of play. Denison built its advantage to 10-5 after 4:16 ticked off the clock in the second period before the Ducks tallied the final two goals (6:43 of game time) and went into halftime down, 10-7.
The Ducks netted the first goal of the second half just 35 seconds into the frame to get back to within two scores, 10-8. After the teams traded scores in a 39-second span, Denison went back up by four, 13-9, in less than a minute. Stevens climbed back to a two-goal difference, 14-12, as the third stanza came to a close.
Denison once again went back by four, 16-12, over a 2:42 span of the final quarter. Stevens held the Big Red scoreless for over 10 minutes and regained control of the scoreboard at 17-16 with just over three minutes left in regulation. After another 1:16 burned off the clock, Denison knotted the contest at 17-17 at the 1:50 mark. The Big Red took the ensuing face-off and found the back of the net just 11 seconds later and secured their win with another goal with 22 seconds to go in regulation.
