LINCOLN, Neb. - Four of the six Empire 8 student athletes that competed on the second day of the NCAA Division III Championships put together All-American performances.
Stevens Institute of Technology sophomore
Gladys Njoku finished second overall in the high jump with a school record mark of 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches). Njoku went to a jump off with Ashlee Ward of Misericordia University for the national title and cleared 1.74 meters, but Ward prevailed at the 1.76-meter mark.
Junior
Amira Dardir also competed in the high jump and finished sixth at 1.69 meters (5' 6.5"). Dardir tied four other jumpers at 1.69 but took sixth due to the number of attempts she took to clear the height.
Ithaca freshman
Natalie Meyer placed 14th in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters, the same height as the 8th-place finishers, but had one miss at 1.60 meters and two at 1.65 meters before clearing each height. It was Meyer's national debut.
Stevens sophomore
Amy Regan secured her second All-American performance of the Championships on Saturday with an eighth place showing in the 3,000-meter run. Regan posted a time of 9:47.27 in a highly contested race. Runners five through eight were separated by less than one second at the finish line.
Ithaca junior
Emilia Scheemaker placed fifth in the triple jump to earn all-America accolades. Scheemaker sat third with a mark of 11.74 meters entering finals, a distance reached on her second attempt. Her finals' series opened with an 11.46-meter performance, followed by a foul and finished with an 11.68-meter mark. Scheemaker, who competed in the NCAA Championships for the third time in her career, earned her first all-America finish. She holds the indoor school record in the event with a mark of 12.25 meters set on Jan. 25.
Utica sophomore
Sarah Wiatr placed 13th with a distance of 11.18 meters in the triple jump. Wiatr's first of three jumps was 10.52 meters, her second was her best of the day (11.18m), and she fouled in her final attempt.
