Baseball Player of the Week – Utica
Benjamin Hobaica, Junior, Second Base – Clinton, NY/Clinton
Benjamin Hobaica led the way for the Pioneers in two early season victories. He went 5-for-5 at the plate, scored a team-best 10 runs, walked five times, registered four RBI's and also recorded six assists in the field. He was 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts and ripped two doubles.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week – Utica
Alec Choleva, Senior – Coventry, CT/East Catholic
Senior Alec Choleva pitched 5.0 innings, and did not allow an earned run as he picked up his first win of the young season as the Pioneers rolled Maine-Farmington 15-1 Sunday. He struck out five batters in the victory and walked just one. Over the course of two Pioneer victories he also went 4-for-6 at the plate with five RBI's, two triples and a home run. He scored six times, walked four times and struck out just once.
Softball Player of the Week – Nazareth
Sophia Rhoades, Junior, Catcher – Highland, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes
Sophia Rhoades led the Golden Flyers with a .462 batting average over 10 non-conference games (3-7) in Florida. She went 12-for-26 with 12 RBIs, three doubles and a triple for a .654 slugging percentage.
Softball Pitcher of the Week – Stevens
Kayla Berardi, Senior – Brookfield, CT/Brookfield
Kayla Berardi struck-out 33 batters in 39 innings of work with a 1.08 ERA as Stevens posted a 6-4 record. Her best game was a 13 strike-out, 3-2 win against previously undefeated Olivet College where she did not give up an earned run and pitched all 12 innings. In the 39 innings pitched throughout the week Berardi gave up just three extra base hits.
Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week – Stevens
Charlie Cronin, Senior, Attack – Northampton, MA/Northampton
Charlie Cronin scored eight goals with two assists in a pair of games for Stevens against nationally ranked opponents. In a loss to No. 4 Tufts, Cronin tallied two goals and two assists. He then recorded six goals against No. 8 Denison.
Men’s Lacrosse Goalie of the Week – Stevens
Kevin Rafferty, Freshman – Bay Shore, NY/Islip
In 120 minutes in goal, freshman Kevin Rafferty recorded 30 saves. He started the week with 17 stops against No. 4 Tufts on Tuesday and followed that performance up with 13 saves on Saturday against No. 8 Denison.
Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week – Ithaca
Ally Runyon, Sophomore, Attack – Fairport, NY/Fairport
Ally Runyon led Ithaca to a 1-1 week with 10 points on a team-high seven goals and three assists, five points in each game. She had a 58.3 shot percentage (7-of-12) and directed 91.7 percent of her shots on goal (11-of-12). She was 2-of-4 in free position shots. Runyon added two ground balls, two draws and a caused turnover. The Bombers picked up their first win of the season 15-5 over Connecticut College, before dropping a 13-12 double OT heartbreaker to sixth-ranked Gettysburg.
Women’s Lacrosse Goalie of the Week – St. John Fisher
Caroline Trpcevski, Senior – Manlius, NY/Fayettville-Manlius
Caroline Trpcevski surrendered just nine goals in a 2-0 week for Fisher as the Cardinals improved to 5-0. On Friday, she recorded five saves against No. 15 Oneonta and then made four saves against Buffalo State on Saturday. She faced 19 shots and collected two ground balls.
