Hartwick 16, Cazenovia 5
The duo of
Lauren Rosenberg and
Kia Ference combined for nine goals to lead the Hartwick women's lacrosse team to a dominating 16-5 victory over Cazenovia on Wednesday afternoon at Wright Stadium. A total of eight Hawk players scored in the game.
It was 5-0 Hartwick a little more than 13 minutes into the first half. The Wildcats got on the board on a Kaitlin Sheppard to Jessica Cramer connection at 15:45. The Hawks tacked on goals from Ference and Meagan Wright to move ahead 7-1 with 11:20 to play in the half. Cazenovia narrowed the lead to 7-2 on a goal from Sheppard 10 seconds later. A free position score from Rosenberg and a goal from Meg Luce gave 'Wick a 9-2 advantage at halftime.
The Hawks continued to pour on the offense in the second period with three straight scores within nine minutes of game time. The Wildcats scored at 19:17 and 'Wick scored twice more as the Hawks surged ahead 14-3 with 13:32 left to play. The two teams traded goals in the final 12:10 of the contest.
Steph Luce picked up the win in goal and turned away five Wildcat shots.
April Hargy relieved her in the second half and picked up two saves.
Hartwick led in shots, 35-19, and in ground balls, 32-22. Wright scooped up six groundballs to lead the team.
The Hawks won 14 draw controls to Cazenovia's nine. 'Wick was 4-of-7 in free position shots with Rosenberg scoring on two opportunities and Wright and Ference converting on one each.
Cortland 12, Ithaca 7
The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (1-4) suffered a 12-7 setback to second-ranked and undefeated Cortland (5-0) Wednesday afternoon. Playing its fourth opponent ranked in the IWLCA top 10, Ithaca held the Red Dragons to a season-low 12 goals. The Red Dragons were outscoring opponents by an average of 14.75 goals per game entering today's contest.
Ithaca had Cortland within one at the half, 6-5. Cortland scored the go-ahead goal with nine ticks lingering in the first. The teams exchanged two scores each to open play, before the Red Dragons rattled off three straight. Ithaca answered netting three of its own over a four-minute span, but Cortland sealed the first with a late score to lead 6-5.
The Red Dragons dominated the second outscoring Ithaca, 6-2. After four Red Dragon goals, Ithaca got on the board at 18:29. Cortland scored two more before sophomore
Ally Runyon went unassisted to polish off all scoring, 12-7.
Freshman
Emily Ross made 11 stops in goal suffering the loss between the pipes.
Drew 12, Stevens 8
Drew University defeated Stevens Institute of Technology by a score of 12-8 Wednesday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.
After freshman midfielder
Kathleen Kalbian started the scoring for Stevens, Drew ran off three-straight tallies to open a 3-1 margin with 21:14 left in the first half. The Ducks responded, going on a 3-0 run of their own to regain the advantage at 4-3, getting a marker from senior attack

The Rangers tied things at four-all with 6:06 remaining in the opening period, but two scores separated by just 1:15 of game time from sophomore midfielder
Mackenzie Swartout made it 6-4 Stevens.
Drew tied the score at six before Wilcox's third goal of the first pushed the Ducks ahead (7-6) with less than one minute remaining in the half. From that point, the Rangers went on a 5-0 run to bridge the first and second half, opening an 11-7 lead that Stevens could not recover from.
Rafferty pulled the Ducks within three at 11-8 with 7:46 to play, but Drew answered 1:09 later, and the Ducks were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way.
Stevens finished with a 36-25 edge in shots, but Drew had a 25-20 margin in ground balls. Drew committed 30 fouls compared to just 15 for the Ducks, and Stevens won 16 of the 23 draw controls on the afternoon.

RIT 6, Nazareth 5
Visiting RIT built a 4-2 halftime lead and never trailed thereafter as the Tigers held on for a 6-5 victory over Nazareth in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.
Both teams are 2-2 overall. For the Golden Flyers it was their first home game of the season. Nazareth plays at the University of Rochester Saturday at 1 p.m.
Senior
Amy McIntosh scored two goals for Nazareth, while juniors
Brooke Sullivan and
Brianna Mancini each scored once along with freshman
Leah Marvin, who netted her first collegiate goal. Sophomore Sage Sarkis had two goals and two assists for RIT. Senior Ashleigh Caruso also scored twice.
The game was methodically played and close throughout. After Nazareth closed to within 4-3on a goal by McIntosh off a feed from freshman
Kate Rothrock with 15:30 left, RIT got goals from Sarkis and Caruso just 15 seconds apart to take its largest lead at 6-3 with 12:20 left.
McIntosh's second goal of the game with 7:13 left brought Nazareth within 6-4 and Sullivan scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season just 43 seconds later to pull Nazareth closer still.
Nazareth had chances to tie the game, but a shot by freshman
Jamie Martin was saved by RIT goalie Caitlin Conway with less than six minutes left, then ensuing shots by Sullivan and McIntosh sailed wide and high respectively.
RIT used most of the final 2-plus minutes to work time off the clock, but Nazareth regained possession with less than :30 left. Another shot by Martin was saved by Conway with :23 left and Nazareth never got another chance.
