St. John Fisher Cruises Past Aurora

The St. John Fisher College baseball team used seven hits to scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, as the Cardinals coasted to a 12-0 win over Aurora University on Saturday at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Lake Myrtle in their season opener.
Senior starting pitcher
Justin D'Amato received more run-support than he needed. The three-time All-American recorded his College-record 28
th career win, striking out 10 batters and allowing just two hits over five innings of action. The southpaw is Fisher's all-time leader in strikeout with 260.
Relief pitchers
Mitch Modlin,
Kevin Berge and
Ryan Smith didn't allow a hit over the final four innings. Modlin tossed two scoreless innings, while Berge struck out the side in the eighth. Smith retired all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Sophomore
Mike Roman led Fisher on the day, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Joe Simmons also collected three hits in his Fisher debut, as did catcher
Nick Flemister.
Senior shortstop
Chris Roeder was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored, while freshman
Malcolm Kelsey also scored two runs and singled twice.
Cam Allen added two hits as well.
Fisher returns to action with a doubleheader on Sunday vs. Gwynedd Mercy College.
