Cardinals Split With Griffins
The St. John Fisher College baseball team salvaged a split in its doubleheader on Saturday against Gwynedd Mercy College in Auburndale, Florida.
After losing the first game, 4-1, Fisher's
Mike Rynerson and
Shawn Corrigan combined for a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over the Griffins in the nightcap. With the win, Fisher improves to 2-1 on the year and will face Trine University at 9 a.m. on Monday.
Game One: Gwynedd Mercy 4, Fisher 1
Fisher jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning as
Brad Rush doubled and scored two batters later on an RBI-groundout from
Mike Roman. Starting pitcher
Sean Badger pitched four scoreless innings, but relievers
Josh Amann (1.1 innings) and
Jalen Dennis (1.2 innings) both gave up two earned runs.
Mike Fahy was 3-for-3 in the game with a double. Fisher finished the contest with a 7-6 edge in hits.
Game Two: Fisher 1, Gwynedd Mercy 0
Mike Rynerson pitched five innings of no-hit base with seven strikeouts.
Shawn Corrigan allowed two hits over two innings in relief and earned the win on the mound with Fisher scoring the game's only run in the top of the seventh. Roman singled to start the frame, advanced to third on a two-out single from
Cody Wiktorski, and scored Fisher's lone run on a wild pitch. The Griffins singled twice in the seventh, but the final two outs were made at second base with catcher
Nick Flemister tossing out two would-be base-stealers.
