Men's T&F Team Wraps Up Indoor State Meet

The Empire 8 men's indoor track and field teams wrapped up competition at the at the 2014 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championships hosted by St. Lawrence.

ALFRED 
AU senior Mykel Ferguson finished in fourth place in the heptathlon, accumulating 4,091 points in the seven events. On Saturday, Ferguson competed in the 60-meter hurdles (9.26 seconds), the pole vault (3.25 meters) and the 1,000-meter run (3:09.05). On Friday, he ran a 7.45 second 60-meter dash and had a 5.72-meter long jump, a 10.88-meter shot put, and a 1.78-meter high jump. FULL STORY


ITHACA
The Ithaca College men's track & field team competed Saturday at the 2014 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championship at St. Lawrence. The Bombers, who have won two titles in program history, scored 87.5 points over the course of 21 events. Ithaca was just five points out of third place.

Ithaca had 15 individual and two relay All-NYSCTC finishes on day two of competition. The Bombers met five ECAC standards Saturday.

The Bombers have placed in the top five of the indoor state meet 21 times in the last 28 years.

Freshman Sean Phillips (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) ran third in the 3,000 in 8:48.21, junior Dennis Ryan (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) placed fourth in the 1,000 in 2:32.23 and junior Mason Mann (Keene, N.H./Keene) was seventh in the 500 in 1:07.86. ST. JOHN FISHER
Devin Cornelius had perhaps the finest outing of his career after helping the St. John Fisher College men's track and field team earn a ninth place finish over the weekend at the NYSCTC Championships in Potsdam, N.Y.

Cornelius was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet after breaking both the NYSCTC Association and the Championship meet records in the heptathlon.  The Deansboro native scored 4818 points which currently ranks him 13th overall in the nation.  Of the seven events held in the heptathlon, Cornelius placed first in three and captured second in two en route to the win. UTICA
The men were led by hurdlers sophomore Frank Volino Jr. and senior Shane Ruffing who took the top two spots in the 60-meter hurdles combining for 18 team points.  FULL STORY
