Clermont, FL (3/20/14)- The Utica College softball team got back on track by winning its last three games at the DOT Richardson Spring Games.  The Pioneers downed SUNY Geneseo 6-1 in a late game Wednesday night, before topping Plattsburgh State 8-0 in five innings and Washington & Jefferson College 2-1 on Thursday.

Utica 6, Geneseo 1- Final

The bats came alive in the fourth inning as Utica plated four runs to down Geneseo.  Senior Meghan Matan (Latham, NY/Shaker), junior Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), and freshman Kassidy Ogren (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) each went 2-for-4 in the game, while both Matan and Ogren recorded doubles.  Senior Chelsea Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown) was 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Alysa Russell (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville), Erica Colucci (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), and Taylor Ellis (Willet, NY/Greene) each had one hit and one RBI.  Sophomore Abby Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown) struck out three and gave up just one unearned run for her first win of the season.

Utica 8, Plattsburgh 0- Final (5 innings)

UC continued its momentum as it cruised to a run-rule victory over Plattsburgh State in its first game of the day Thursday morning.  The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings as Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) doubled to bring in Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk), and Chelsea Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown) hit a three-run bomb over the left field fence to bring home Meghan Matan (Latham, NY/Shaker), and sister Abby Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown)
Utica was not finished as it scored four more runs in the final three innings to take its second victory in as many days.  Fitzgerald and Alysa Russell (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) each finished 2-for-3, while Erica Colucci (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) fanned one and allowed just three hits for her shutout win.

Utica 2, Washington & Jefferson 1- Final

After four scoreless innings, the Pioneers finally broke the deadlock as Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) singled to left field, driving in the only two runs that Utica would need.   Abby Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown) gave up just one run and struck out four to help UC improve to 3-3 on the young season.  Alysa Russell (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville), Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), Kassidy Ogren (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), Erica Colucci (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Meghan Matan (Latham, NY/Shaker) each had one hit for the Pioneers.

UC looks to continue its momentum into the final day of the DOT Richardson Spring Games on Friday as it has three games.  The Pioneers take on Allegheny College at 9 a.m. before facing Fredonia State in a double-header at 3 p.m.
