SWARTHMORE, P.A. (March 21, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team continued their grueling schedule on Saturday, falling to No. 9 Kenyon College 6-3.

The loss drops Stevens to 3-7, while Kenyon moved to 9-4.

The Ducks fell into a hole early when the junior tandem of Wade Heerboth and Michael Razumovsky knocked off freshman Charles Drake and freshman Michael Feldman 8-4 in No. 2 doubles. Kenyon extended their lead at No. 1 with an 8-5 win for junior Tim Rosensteel and sophomore Sam Geier over freshman Antonio Perich and sophomore Matthew Heinrich.

The Ducks answered though in No. 3 when the sophomore duo of Tyler Tisdale and Ben Foran knocked off freshmen Nick Fiaschetti and Mike Roberts. In the match, Kenyon was serving up 6-5, but Stevens broke, and went on to win 9-7 to take the point. The combo of Tisdale and Foran are currently undefeated.

Kenyon regained the momentum at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win, followed by a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 for junior Davis Thraikill over freshman Brett Derrington. Stevens rebounded with a win at No. 1 for Heinrich over Heerboth, but Kenyon clinched the match at No. 3 with Geier's 6-3, 6-4 win over Feldman. Geier came into the match ranked top-10 in the country.

The Ducks took the win at No. 4 with Drake's 6-4, 7-6 win over Rosensteel to pick up their third point of the match. Drake was down 0-4 in the second set, but won four straight before winning in tiebreaker. Kenyon took the wins at No. 4 and No. 2 to complete their 6-3 win.

"There was a moment when it looked like we could get a win versus a top-10 team, but ultimately Kenyon was more solid than us and deserved the match," head coach Steve Gachko said. "By now we've realized that it takes a lot to get five points versus a top team, and we're not quite there yet. Matches like these are invaluable for our young group, and we look forward to learning from it and improving for the next opportunity that comes our way."

The Ducks will be back in action on March 29, as they open Empire 8 play against Ithaca College at 10 a.m. Be sure to check stevensducks.com for match results and recaps.
