AU men’s tennis team sweeps past Penn State-Behrend, Pitt-Bradford

OLEAN, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team swept a pair of matches Sunday, held at the indoor courts in Olean. AU beat Penn State-Behrend, 8-1, then took down Pitt-Bradford, 7-2.

With the two non-conference victories, the Saxons improve to 7-3 on the 2013-14 season.

Against Behrend, the Saxons took five of six singles matches. Sophomore Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) won first singles, 6-1, 6-1; senior Peter Benoit (Gasport, NY/Barker) took second singles, 6-0, 6-1; junior Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside) won third singles, 6-1, 6-0; senior Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) won fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0; and senior Eric Teller (Granville, NY/Granville) claimed sixth singles, 6-0, 6-4.

AU swept doubles play, with Doud and Nonnenmann winning first doubles, 8-5; Benoit and Graham taking second doubles, 8-0; and freshman Evan Haskins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) and Teller winning third doubles, 9-7.

Alfred won all singles matches against Pitt-Bradford. Doud won first singles, 6-2, 6-1; Benoit won second singles, 6-1, 6-2; Graham won third singles, 6-1, 6-2; Nonnenmann won fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1; Teller won fifth singles, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0; and Haskins won sixth singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Graham and Nonnenmann won AU's only doubles match against the Panthers, taking second doubles, 8-1.

The Saxons play next on Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m., in Olean against RIT.
