Hawks Defeated By St. Thomas in Opener in South Carolina

HILTON HEAD, SC – Hartwick's men's tennis team opened the 2014 season on Monday evening in Hilton Head, SC with a defeat at the hands of St. Thomas University. The Tommies won by a margin of 9-0.

Junior Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota HS) and sophomore Jefferson Monastoque (Herdia, Costa Roca/Blue Valley HS) each won five games in singles play for the Hawks.

At fourth singles, Coppola dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to St. Thomas' Matt Kavanagh. In the fifth flight, Monastoque fell to Tom Runde, 6-2, 6-3.

The Tommies were playing in their ninth match of the season (7-2). The Hawks will return to action on Wednesday, March 26 against Concordia (WI) in Hilton Head.
