Ithaca 18, Elmira 4
The 17th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (3-4, 2-0 Empire 8) won its second straight Empire 8 contest with an 18-4 victory over Elmira (3-4, 0-1 Empire 8) Tuesday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.

Senior Becky Guzzo fed junior Niki Standera just 13 seconds into action to set the pace of the game. The Bombers went on to lead 7-0 at 17:46. Elmira chipped in a pair of goals as Ithaca added five more for a ten-goal gap, 12-2, at the half.

Ithaca rattled off six goals in the second stint, while Elmira closed out the game with a pair of its own for an 18-4 final, matching the outcome of the 2013 contest.

Sophomore Ally Runyon led the game with four goals, while junior Ali Woller and freshman Morgan Cadwell netted their first collegiate scores en route to hat tricks. Juniors Molly Fischer, Standera and Delaney Gilson contributed two goals each. Sophomore Riley Marion scored once as did freshman Morgan Racicot, the first of her career.

Guzzo dished out a contest-best three assists. Freshman Gaby Berne added two in her collegiate debut. Racicot and sophomore Taylor Purvis had one apiece.

Freshman Emily Ross earned the win in goal, making four saves in the first half. Senior Brittany Romano relieved Ross in the second, making one stop for the Blue & Gold.

Ithaca owned a 37-13 advantage in shots and a 24-19 edge in ground balls. Ithaca led draw controls, 16-8. The Bombers improve to 13-1 all-time against the Soaring Eagles.


Morrisville 16, Alfred 14 (OT)
The Alfred University women's lacrosse fell to Morrisville State 16-14 in overtime, Tuesday evening on the road.

Senior midfielder Ashley White, senior defender Janelle Gallipeau, junior attack Kaitlyn Button and freshman attack Megan Wendt all scored two goals apiece, giving AU an 8-6 halftime lead.

Morrisville evened the score at 10-10 with 14:31 remaining in the second half. Both traded goals throughout the second half until Button netted a goal inside 20 seconds to give the Lady Saxons a 13-12 lead. The Mustangs gained the equalizer as time expired to force overtime.

Goals were exchanged in the overtime frames, but Morrisville scored the final goal as overtime expired to secure the win.

Gallipeau finished with a team-best five goals and Button followed with four scores and a team-high seven caused turnovers.

Junior Taylor Tarajos made a game-high 14 saves in 66 minutes, in net for AU.


Cortland 14, Nazareth 3
Visiting Cortland outscored Nazareth 6-0 in the first half and 8-3 in the second half to defeat the Golden Flyers 14-3 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Tuesday afternoon. The second-ranked Red Dragons' offense controlled possessions and used transition opportunities to set up scoring chances. Nazareth junior Brooke Sullivan and senior Amy McIntosh scored on free position opportunities in the second half, and sophomore Carly Gates set up freshman Leah Marvin's goal toward the end of regulation.

Cortland's potent offensive attack started 3:06 into regulation as the Red Dragons converted a player-advantage opportunity. Emma Hayes-Hurley scored the Red Dragons' goal after Gates was issued a yellow card. After Erica Geremia's goal 52 seconds later extended Cortland's lead, the teams played roughly 15 minutes of scoreless action before Marilyn Farrell tallied her first goal of the game. The Red Dragons scored three additional times in the half, all coming in a span of 1:50. Kristen Ohberg started the run with a goal with 9:58 to play in the stanza, then Geremia, who leads Cortland in scoring, recorded her second tally of the game. Ohberg capped the run with her second tally. All three goals were unassisted.

After Taylor Reh scored on a free position chance for the Red Dragons, Sullivan converted a free position chance to put the Golden Flyers on the board 3:27 into the second half. Hayes-Hurley added another unassisted goal for Cortland before McIntosh's free position goal 7:59 into the period. McIntosh's goal returned the Golden Flyers' deficit to six goals, 8-2.

The Golden Flyers battled through regulation, forcing a turnover in the final minute, which provided Marvin's scoring chance. Following the turnover, Gates took the ball down the right sideline and passed to Marvin, who had cut in front of Cortland's net. Marvin's shot found the top of Red Dragons' goal.

Senior Tara Prosak finished with a game-high 13 saves for the Golden Flyers, including eight in the first 30 minutes. Cortland's Liz Ingalls and Jaclyn Beshlian combined for three goals allowed and 10 saves. The Red Dragons finished with overwhelming advantages in shots (36-16) and draw controls collected (16-3). Cortland had a 13-12 edge in ground balls collected.

Sullivan led the Golden Flyers in total shots with eight, including six on goal. Her goal gave her a team-leading 10 goals on the season. McIntosh had five total shots, including four on goal. Her goal gives her six on the season. Marvin's goal was her second tally of the season. Junior MacKenzie Haley finished with a team-leading three ground balls and two caused turnovers.


Fredonia 10, St. John Fisher 7
The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse program dropped a 10-7 decision at SUNY Fredonia on Tuesday afternoon.  

The Cardinals, currently ranked No. 14 in the latest national coaches poll, fell behind five minutes into the game and trailed 5-1 midway through the first half.

Fisher trailed 8-2 with just over 20 minutes left, but scored four goals over the next seven minute to make it 9-5. Emily Bryerton made it 10-7 with just over eight minutes left, but Fisher couldn't get any closer.

Fisher finished the game with a 21-17 advantage in shots and held a 12-7 edge in draw controls.    Both teams scooped up 12 ground balls, while Fisher (15) committed two more turnovers than the Blue Devils (13).

Taylor Hughes and Sierra Badger each scored two goals for the Cardinals, while Lindsey Shoales and Jill Zerrillo also scored. Erin Ward led Fisher with three ground balls. Samantha Barton chipped in with two assists.
