Houghton 23, Hilbert 4
Temperatures in the mid-teens couldn't keep Houghton women's lacrosse from heating up as the Highlanders defeated the Hilbert College Hawks, 23-4, at home Wednesday.

The 23 goals were the most the team has scored in its short two-year history. It surpassed the 16 goals the team scored in two separate games earlier this season. The 78 goals scored through seven games this season has already surpassed last season's 71 scored in 13 games.

Against Hilbert, Nicole Mason scored before a minute had passed and Houghton added four more over the next 10 minutes to take control. The Highlanders led 15-3 at the half after outshooting the Hawks, 34-5.

With a running clock in the second half, Houghton scored eight more times, while conceding an own goal to the Hawks.

Jennifer Zacchigna tallied five goals for the second-straight contest -- and third time this season -- and contributed three assists, while sister Amanda Zacchigna scored four times. Tyler Reese and Chandler Jones also had big nights. Reese produced three goals and four assists, while Jones added three goals and a school-record six assists. The nine points by Jones was also a school record.

Maesa Phongsamouth also had a hat trick, Mason scored twice, Jessica McDowell scored one, while Elizabeth Houseman and Kourtnie Franklin each had the first goals of their Highlander careers.

The Highlanders finished with a 49-5 advantage in shots, 43-18 in ground balls and 19-9 in draw controls.

Carly Congilosi made one save in net.

Five different Hawks tallied on the day, led by Ally Naja's goal and assist. Ali Sisco, Lauren RosenbergMeg Luce, and Kia Ference also scored for 'Wick. Emily Jweid dished out an assist.

Hartwick was in command at the break following Luce and Ference goals with under eight minutes to play to break a 3-3 tie. The Storm, however, would register goals on six of its 10 shots in the second half to earn the victory.

Sisco opened the scoring early for Hartwick with a goal 27 seconds into the game. Jweid set the play up with her team-best fourteenth assist of the season.

Jennifer Burt, who registered a game-high four goals for Keuka, brought her team back even just over three minutes after Sisco's tally. Rosenberg put the Hawks up again at 20:53 with her team-leading twenty-third goal of the year but the Storm answered right back 1:35 later.

Naja and Keuka's Caroline Arancio traded goals 1:14 apart to make the score 3-3 with under eighteen minutes to go in the half.

The game remained deadlocked for nearly the next 10 minutes of action with Hartwick holding a 3-0 edge in shots over the timeframe. Finally Luce broke through on a free-position shot at 7:58. Ference added Hartwick' fifth score with an unassisted tally at 3:48 and 'Wick took the two-goal advantage into the half.

In the second half, Hartwick had two of the first three shots but both were off-target. Burt brought the Storm to within one with her second goal with 21:02. It set off a three-goal rally in a 1:37 span which gave the visitors the lead, 6-5.

Rosenberg was denied by Keuka goalie Korie Fitzgerald at the 16-minute mark which would have tied the game. Instead, the Storm notched a two-goal lead at 14:41 on leading scorer Taylor Smith's goal. Burt won the ensuing draw and later would add to the Storm's total with 13 minutes left. Kaycee Maguire closed out the scoring with 9:12 on the clock.

Over the final eight minutes, Hartwick would out-shoot Keuka 4-0. Only Rosenberg's shot was on goal, but Fitzgerald made her sixth and final save of the game.
