Houghton Wins; Hartwick and Naz Fall on the Road
Houghton 8, D'Youville 1
After suffering defeat in its first four matches, the Houghton men's tennis team broke into the win column with an 8-1 victory over D'Youville College in a home match played at St. Bonaventure University.
The win comes a week after the Highlanders lost 4-5 to this same D'Youville team.
Brennen Campbell fell in first singles (2-6, 1-6), but Houghton got victory's in the rest of the day's matchups.
Rochester 9, Nazareth 0 Box
Host University of Rochester dominated Nazareth in a non-conference men's tennis match Thursday as the Yellowjackets improved to 8-4 overall with a 9-0 victory.
Rochester swept all three doubles matches in convincing fashion, then Nazareth freshman
Christian Bryant had the most competitive singles match as he lost in a tiebreaker at #6. UR's Ben Mermelstein outlasted Bryant 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. Senior
Nick Lord also lost a close match at fourth singles by scores of 6-3, 7-6(8-6).
Rochester claimed the top two singles matches with Ben Shapiro defeating Nazareth's
Tyler Williams 6-1, 6-4 at #1 and Boris Borovcanin defeating Nazareth's
Erik Manske 6-3, 6-2 at #2.
Franklin 8, Hartwick 1 Box
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) secured a singles win but the Hartwick men's tennis team fell by an 8-1 margin on Friday in the Hawks' Hilton Head finale.
Brown won a decision over Franklin's Luke Snyder at third singles. Brown took the match by a final count of 6-4, 6-2.
Ross Braue (Canastota, NY/Canastota) won six games, 6-3, 6-3, to Franklin's Neal Herzog in sixth singles.
Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) and
Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) each won four games in singles action.
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) and Gilbraith won four games in fourth doubles. Brown and Monastoque won three.
