Stevens Scores 22 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Fisher
WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (March 29, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team continued their hot-hitting on Saturday, beating St. John Fisher College (8-4) 11-0 and 11-1 in a rainy doubleheader sweep.
The wins marked the first time Stevens (12-4) has ever swept St. John Fisher in a doubleheader, and the seven wins in-a-row are also a program first.

The Ducks continued their trend of early inning outbursts, this time scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first. With senior

Sydney Spitz was hit by a pitch to push-across one more. Junior

Kayla Berardi tallied back-to-back walks to add two, before DeFeo doubled to score two more. Rees picked up a two-run double with two outs to extend the early lead to 9-0.

Stephanie Senkevich kept the offense going in the second with a two-run home run to build the lead to 11-0. The runs were more than enough for Berardi who struck-out the side in the second before retiring the side in order in the third and fourth.
St. John Fisher finally broke through in the fifth when freshman Genevieve Paeglow homered to lead-off the inning, but Berardi quickly recovered, and retired the final two batters to seal the 11-0 win.
Seven of the Stevens starting hitters tallied hits, while DeFeo, DeGennaro, and Rees added multiple hits. Rees led the team with three RBIs to go along with two from DeFeo and Senkevich, The win was the fifth of the year for Berardi who struck-out six in the five-inning complete game.

Fresh off a nine-run outburst in the first inning of game one, the Ducks once again wasted no time in jumping all-over St. John Fisher junior starter Lauren Wesolowski in game two.
After DeFeo and sophomore
Gavriella Risman-Jones reached to start the game, Rees doubled to left to score DeFeo. Senkevich continued the rally with a two-out single to left to score Risman-Jones before a throwing error at third allowed Rees to score the third run.
Both teams matched zeroes in the second, but Rees continued the offense in the third with a double to left to score DeGennaro to give Stevens a 4-0 lead. Wesolowski struck-out the next two, but freshman
Emily Sellitti's pinch-hit single scored DeGennaro and Mulligan to pad the lead once more.
The Ducks added three more in the fourth off a Rees singled to right to score one, followed by a Senkevich double to score two more. Berardi followed by helping her own cause with a triple to left to give Stevens the 11-0 win they would go on to win by. The runs were once again plenty for Berardi who retired the side in order in the fifth to get the win.
Rees and Senkevich combined for six RBIs, while Sellitti and Berardi each added two of their own. Risman-Jones scored three times to go along with three hits, while DeGennaro also added two hits along with two runs scored. The win was Berardi's sixth, as her ERA dropped to 0.79.
