The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team won its season-opener on Tuesday, as the Cardinals used a 7-0 run to defeat Misericordia University 14-6 in Clearwater, Fla.

Fisher never trailed the game. 

With the game tied at 2-2, the Cardinals scored two goals in the final five minutes of the first quarter to take a 4-2 lead after one quarter.  Misericordia made it 4-3 just 11:48 left in the second quarter, but the Cardinals pulled away scoring seven straight – including four from first-year player Gary Bova.

Misericordia scored in the final minute of the third quarter to make it 11-4, ending a 25-minute scoring drought, forced by the first defense.

Bova led Fisher on the day, tallying seven points on four goals and three assists.   Greg Ramsden scored three goals, while Brett Farrell (two goals, one assist) and Jeff Wester(one goal, two assists) each finished with three points as well.

Paul Cefalu was solid as Fisher's top faceoff specialist, winning 15-of-20 and scooping up a team-high six ground balls.

Dave Giordano and Nick Rossi both added a goal and an assist, while David HaseleyMike DeMar and Tim Wagner also picked up a point.  Haseley also forced two turnovers.

Jamie Campagna picked up the win for Fisher after making five stops in cage.  Tanner Swan stopped two shots in goal as well.

The Cardinals will conclude their spring break schedule when they take on DeSales University at 1 p.m. on Thursday from David Martin Field in Clearwater.
