Fisher Takes Care Of Rose-Hulman

The St. John Fisher College baseball team used a nine-run fourth and five-run fifth inning to defeat Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 15-2 on Wednesday in Lake Myrtle at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. 

With the win, Fisher improves to 4-1 on the season. Through the first five games of the season, Fisher's starting pitchers have now combined for 25 innings pitched, allowing just one unearned run, five hits, and 31 strikeouts.

The Cardinals took control of the game with two outs in the fourth when eight straight batters reached base. Senior Brad Rush hit his first home run of the season, which was his second hit of the inning. Senior Nick Flemister and freshman Malcolm Kelsey also recorded two hits in the inning, which helped the Cardinals surge to a 10-1 lead.

Fisher continued its momentum into the fifth inning with five more runs off six consecutive singles from sophomores Cam Allen, Cody Wiktorski, and Joe Simmons, and seniors Mike Fahy, Chris Roeder, and Flemister. 

Flemister led the offense, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Roeder also recorded three hits with three runs scored and an RBI, while Fahy and Rush paired up with two hits, two runs, and two RBI each.

Senior pitcher Shawn Corrigan earned his second win of the year, going six innings, giving up just two hits, one run (unearned), and striking out four. Junior Jalen Dennis closed it out, giving up one unearned run on one hit.  

The Cardinals will return to action at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday against Coe College in Lake Myrtle.
