Houghton Sweeps Iowa Wesleyan on Day 2 of Florida Trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Highlander baseball squad improved their 2014 record to 2-1 thanks to a two-game sweep of Iowa Wesleyan College on Tuesday.

Houghton took game one, 2-1, and the night cap, 6-3.

In the opener, Jared Knowlton pitched a complete game six hitter, allowing just one run while striking out two and walking two.

Enrico Sukhdeo and Garret Kirkpatrick each went 2-for-3 at the plate, with Kirkpatrick adding a stolen base and an RBI. Tommy Walker was 1-3 with a triple.

Game two featured another strong pitching performance, this time from Kevin Cassar. The sophomore allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work. Seth Cornell and Brett Rapan each went 2-for-4 at the plate, with Rapan registering a double and three RBI. Pat Parsons was 2-for-2.

Houghton (2-1) is back in action Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. vs. Eastern Mennonite in Winter Haven, Fla.
