Fisher Softball Defeats Clark; Falls To Kenyon
Fresh off two wins to start the season the St. John Fisher College softball team came back Tuesday to cruise to a 5-1 opening game win over Clark University before dropping its first contest of the year in a 4-0 decision against Kenyon College.
With the split Fisher moves to 3-1 on the year.
Game 1: Fisher 5, Clark University 1
Picking up where it left off on Monday, Fisher kept its bats hot recording two runs in the first inning. With
Meghan Burns sitting in scoring position at third base,
Lauren Owens cashed in with a sacrifice fly to drive in the first run of the game. After a walk by
Jessica D'Angelo,
Olivia Fusilli knocked an RBI double into center field to push the Fisher lead to 2-0.
On her next appearance in the third inning, Fusilli picked up her second RBI of the day resulting from a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Owens to cushion the Cardinals lead to 3-0.
Fisher added two more run in the fourth inning. Burns earned an RBI single, advancing all the way to third base on an error by the right fielder, allowing
Kate Disbrow to score from second base.
Jennifer Knaak followed that up with a single to score Burns.
Clark scored one run in the fifth inning but they would come no closer as
Halie Schoff allowed just six hits in the game, striking out three batters along the way. Schoff improves to 2-0 on the season.
Burns led the way for Fisher going 3-4 in the game while Owens and Disbrow each totaled two hits for the Cardinals.
Game 2: Kenyon 4, Fisher 0
In a battle of two unbeaten squad's sitting at 3-0 Fisher came out on the losing end in its second game.
The Cardinals found themselves in some trouble early in the first inning as Kenyon had the bases loaded with no outs. Pitcher
Hillary Panek was able to salvage the inning though, escaping with just one run given up.
Kenyon added two more runs in the third inning before
Lauren Wesolowski came in to retire the last out of the inning and keep the deficit at 3-0.
The Fisher lineup had several well hit balls throughout the game, however the Kenyon defense made each play they needed to, keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard.
The Ladies' added one more run in the fourth inning to round out the games scoring.
Owens added two hits in the game for Fisher.
The Cardinals are off on Wednesday and will be back in action on Thursday to take on Cedar Crest College at 9 a.m. followed by Bluffton University, with both games slated to be played at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.
