Friday Features Three Homeruns
Stevens 13, John Jay 1
The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 13-1 rout of John Jay College in a CUNYAC contest on Friday afternoon at Dobbelaar Field.
Stevens pounded out 18 hits and seven for extra bases in the game. The Ducks' pitching staff also struck out 16 batters and gave up just four hits.
The Ducks plated a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single down the rightfield line from freshman
Zeph Walters (Diamond Bar, Calif.) that brought senior
Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) around to score from second base.
Junior
Brian Hennelly (Holbrook, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the second with a double to left-center and then crossed home on an RBI base hit from sophomore
Nicholas Sieber (Shrewsbury, Mass.) on the ensuing at bat to give the Ducks a 2-0 advantage.
In the third, Stevens put three runs on the board on back-to-back homeruns from Allen and Walters. Allen stroked a two-run shot to center after sophomore
Jayson Yano (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) led off the frame with a double. Walters then stepped to the plate and sent a towering drive to right to cap off the offense in the inning.
John Jay notched its only run of the contest in the top of the fourth with consecutive hits to break the string of 16 1/3 hitless innings tossed by the Stevens pitching staff.
The Ducks tacked on two more in the fifth on a double from sophomore
Tyler Bush (Bristol, Conn.) that scored junior
Gregg Nickels (Simpsonville, S.C.). A few batters later, Yano brought Bush home on a sacrifice fly to center.
Allen drove in another run in the seventh after senior
Curt Lowenstein (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) reached on a single and then stole his way to third. After Allen swiped a pair of bags, he completed his trip around the bases on a base hit from junior
Ryan Mannello (Staten Island, N.Y.).
Stevens' offense continued in the eighth with four runs on four hits. Yano pushed sophomore
John Sideris (Whitestone, N.Y.) home with the bases loaded on a single to center, and then freshman
P.J. Wiegartner (Hamilton Square, N.J.) picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly that plated freshman Brett Viola (Carmel, N.Y.). The big blow of the inning was delivered by freshman
Michael Mule' (Boca Raton, Fla.), who picked up two RBI on a double. Freshmen
Michael Yorita (Irvine, Calif.) and
Nolan Bennett (Chatsworth, Calif.) scored on the play.
Allen went 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Walters also collected three hits in five trips to the plate with a pair of RBI and a run scored. Hennelly, Mannello and Yano all recorded two hits apiece, while Lowenstein stole four bases and walked twice.
On the mound, junior
Peirce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.) picked up the victory with six strikeouts in three no-hit innings. Marston was then replaced by classmate
Gary Boardman (Staten Island, N.Y.) who struck out four batters and allowed three hits over three innings. Freshman
Will Korosec (Cream Ridge, N.J.) made his collegiate debut and fanned the side in the seventh, while Allen and Walters each tossed an inning and combined for three punch outs.
St. John Fisher 15, Trine 2 and St. John Fisher 12, St. Vincent 4
The St. John Fisher College baseball program won its final two games of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, defeating Trine University 15-2 and Saint Vincent College 12-4 on Friday. With the two wins, the Cardinals will return to New York with an overall record of 6-1, marking the best start to a season since 2008.

After a slow start, Fisher erupted for four runs in the third and eight runs fourth inning for the second consecutive game.
Senior
Sean Badger earned his first win of the season, throwing five innings, yielding four hits, and tying his career-high with nine strikeouts. Badger, along with the entire starting rotation, has not allowed an earned run yet this season. Freshman pitcher

Troy Loparco pitched the sixth and seventh frames.
Seven of the starting nine in the lineup recorded multi-hit performances for the Cardinals, highlighted by Senior
Nick Flemister and
Cody Wiktorski. Both players were 4-for-4 in the game a doubled a combined five times. Wiktorski finished with three runs and three RBI, while Flemister scored twice and drove in two runs.
Cam Allen and
Brad Rush both scored twice and went 2-for-4 with a triple.
Malcolm Kelsey and
Joe Simmons were 2-for-3 with two RBI, while
Chris Roeder was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Game v St. Vincent
Fisher jumped out to an early lead behind the swing of Flemister, who homered in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first to put the Cardinals up for good.
Senior
Justin D'Amato threw six scoreless innings, recorded six strikeouts, and gave up just four hits to earn his second win of the season. Sophomore
Erin Moskal pitched two innings, allowing four unearned runs on six hits, and striking out one. Junior
Ryan Smith recorded the final three outs for Fisher, striking out two.
The bottom half of the order produced 11 hits, nine RBI, and eight runs scored. Freshman
Malcolm Kelsey went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, RBI, and runs scored. Wiktorski was 2-for-3 with a career-high five RBI. Allen also had three hits in the game for the Cardinals.
Tim Coykendall and
Parker Ross both went 1-for-1 with a run scored. The single was the first career hit for Ross.
Fisher has outscored its opponents 67-15 over the seven-game span en route to a 6-1 record. The starting rotation has gone 5-0 with 46 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched, and yielded just one unearned run.
ITHACA
The Ithaca College baseball team began its 2014 season with a doubleheader sweep of Old Westbury on Friday afternoon at Baseball Heaven. Ithaca won the first game 1-0 and the second game 2-0. The Bombers are 2-0 on the season and will continue their season with six games in California this week.

The Bombers scored the game's only run in the top of the seventh inning on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by
Brian Burns (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) to bring home
John Stanley (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia). Ithaca loaded the bases on Stanley's leadoff single, then
Colby Gee(Freeville, N.Y./Dryden) reached when he was hit by a pitch and
Stephen Yanchus (Owego, N.Y./Owego) reached on an error. Burns flew out to right field to bring in Stanley.
John Prendergast (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) earned the victory on the mound. He pitched all seven innings and faced just two more batters than the minimum. He allowed two hits, both singles, with no walks and didn't hit any batters. Prendergast had three strikeouts in the game.

Ithaca scored a run in the second and another in the fifth of another shutout victory. The Bombers got on the board in the second when
Matt Connolly (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake) scored on an RBI single to right field by
Cooper Belyea (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca). Ithaca added an unearned run in the fifth when a fielding error in the Old Westbury infield allowed
Tim Henry (North Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) to score from third base.
David Jasukonis (Oxford, Mass./St. Mary's ) pitched the complete-game shutout victory and allowed just two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
