Fisher Notches Wins Over Edgewood And Dominican (Ill.)
The St. John Fisher College softball squad picked up two victories on Friday rallying from behind to beat both Edgewood College, 3-2, and Dominican University (Ill.) 5-1 in the second game of the day.
With the wins the Cardinals improve to 6-2 on the season.
Fisher 3, Edgewood College 2
In the first game each squad did all of its damage in the fifth inning. The Eagles scored two runs on a two-out double down the line to take the 2-0 lead.
Although Fisher managed only three hits in the game, two of which came in the fifth inning, they made the most of them.
Genevieve Paeglow started out the fifth inning with a walk. The Cardinals then caught a break as
Samantha Poules reached first on a sacrifice bunt error, while Paeglow scooted around to third. This allowed
Jessie Smyrski to move Paeglow around on a single to left field, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
After consecutive strikeouts
Meghan Burns came up huge blasting a double down the left field line to bring Poules and Smyrski home, giving the Cardinals the outright lead for good.
Starting pitcher
Lauren Wesolowski went the distance, bringing Fisher home for the win with back-to-back no-hit innings to close out the game to improve to 2-1 on the season. She finished the contest with three strikeouts.
Jessica D'Angelo had the only other hit for Fisher.

Fisher was up for the challenge yet again in game two after the Stars slipped ahead 1-0 in the top of the third inning on an unearned run for
Halie Schoff. She finished the day surrendering just four hits improving to 3-0 on the year.
However the Cardinals answered right back in the bottom half of the inning as
Jennifer Knaak picked up an RBI single to second base to score
Kate Disbrow on the play.
After a scoreless inning from Dominican, the Cardinals were able to create some breathing room adding three more runs in the fourth inning.
Olivia Fusilli cashed in on a bases loaded single to center field to bring in Paeglow and D'Angelo and make it 3-0 Cardinals. Following a sacrifice bunt by Smyrski to advance the runners, Disbrow slapped a single to second base to score Poules and put Fisher up 4-1.
Knaak added one more insurance run in the fifth inning to close out the scoring.
Disbrow ended the game 3-for-3 to pace the Cardinals.
Fisher will close out its spring break trip tomorrow, playing Salem State University at 9 a.m. and Bridgewater State University at 11 a.m. with both games slated to be played at the Lee County Sports Complex.
