Houghton Loses Last Two Florida Contests Saturday
CLERMONT, Fla. -- Houghton softball wrapped up its annual spring trip to Florida with losses to College of St. Benedict and Salve Regina on Saturday.
In the opener, the Highlanders played strong against a tough Blazers squad but came up on the short end of a 3-1 score. More details to come.
The second game featured a 13-2 loss to the Seahawks. After two scoreless innings, the Seahawks broke through in the top of the third and added two more runs in the top of the fifth to take control. Four more runs in the top of the sixth maded it 8-0 before Houghton put two runs across in the bottom of the sixth. Adrean Tiffany singled to lead off the inning and came home on a Sam Patoff triple. Patoff scored on a fielder's choice three batters later.
The Seahawks scored five more times in the top of the seventh to close the scoring.
Patoff finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Alyssa Espinoza and Tiffany had the only other Highlander hits.
Sarah Beirne and Ashley Schenk split time on the mound.
Houghton (0-12) travels to Kenyon College for a double header on Friday, March 21. First game is set for 3:30 p.m.
