Houghton Opens Spring Season with Home Loss to Roberts
OLEAN, N.Y. -- With the Houghton courts still covered with snow and the Kerr-Pegula Field House still under construction, the Highlanders' men's tennis spring home opener shifted to its alternate home location at St. Bonaventure on Saturday.
Houghton lost to Roberts Wesleyan, 9-0.
Brennen Campbell performed well in first singles, losing 3-6, 2-6. Matt James fell in second singles 0-6, 0-6. Chase Rangel lost in third singles 0-6, 0-6. Dan Hammer lost in fourth singles 1-6, 0-6. Nate Aston lost in fifth singles 0-6, 0-6. Dan Clink lost in sixth singles 0-6, 0-6.
Doubles play featured Campbell and James losing 1-8, Rangel and Hammers losing 0-8 and Aston and Jacob Hertzler falling 0-8.
"They were hard-fought matches, and the scores do not indicate now well we played," said Head Coach Charlie Ellis.
Houghton returns to action hosting D'Youville College on Saturday, March 15 at 12:30 p.m.
