MOOSIC, Pa.—The University of Scranton men’s golf team picked up wins over local rivals King’s College and Baptist Bible, but Marywood University spoiled the Royals’ quest for another perfect season this afternoon at Glenmaura National Golf Club.

The Pacers defeated the Royals by five strokes, 334-339, to hand Scranton its first loss in dual-meet competition since April 2, 2012.  The Royals went 12-0 last season and won their first nine matches heading into today's competition.

Scranton, now 11-1, was led by junior Erik Meyer (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights), who carded a 76 to earn medalist honors.  The Royals also received an 82 from senior Charles Hudacek (Moosic, Pa./Scranton Preparatory), a 90 from senior Grant Gulick (Binghamton, NY/Johnson City), and a 91 from sophomore Eric Montella (Waverly, Pa./Abington Heights).

Devin Crowley led the Pacers with a 78.  Rounding out Marywood’s top four scorers were Michael Thomas with an 83, John Lawless with an 84, and Paul Kania and Dalton Deardorff each shot 89.

Shamus Gartley led the Monarchs with an 84 and Jason Greve recorded Baptist Bible’s lowest score with an 88.

Meyer’s 76 was his 10th sub-80 round of the season and brings his team-leading scoring average to 75.

The Royals will return to action this Sunday and Monday, April 13-14, at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational.  Scranton is two-time defending champion.
