ECAC Honors Three Spring Athletes with Weekly Awards
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced their Corvias player of the week awards for this past week, and three Empire 8 athletes made the list.
SOFTBALL - Player of the Week
Alysa Russell – Utica College
Sophomore, Infield, Mechanicville, NY
Russell recorded nine hits on 12 at bats (.750), 12 RBIs, and four home runs in four wins last week. In the first game of a double header to Union she went 3-4 with one home run and three RBIs. In the second game, a 12-7 win, she went 3-3 with two home runs and a double. She drove in seven runs in the game. In the two wins against SUNY IT she went 3-5 with two RBIs and one home run.
SOFTBALL - Pitcher of the Week
Alex Puglisi – Elmira College
Senior, Shelton, Conn.
Aside from homering twice and driving in five runs, Puglisi also shined in the pitcher's circle. In game one, she tossed a complete game shutout, striking out six batters while allowing just three hits.
MEN'S LACROSSE - Defensive Player of the Week
Jamie Campagna – St. John Fisher College
Senior, Goalkeeper, Liverpool, NY
Campagna picked up his fourth win of the season on Saturday as the St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team picked up a come-from-behind win over Stevens, 7-5. Campagna held Stevens well below its season scoring average. The Liverpool native surrendered only five goals in the contest and came up with 15 saves in the win. He also scooped up three ground balls.
