OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Maesa Phongsamouth (Leominster, Mass., Leominster) scored twice to lead the Highlanders in an 18-5 women's lacrosse loss at Oswego State University on Thursday.

Oswego opened the scoring just over 1:30 into the contest, but Houghton's Nicole Mason (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora) tied the score three minutes later off an assist from Kelsie Ashley (Landisville, PA, Hempfield HS). The Lakers responded with four-straight goals to push the lead to 5-1. After an unassisted goal from Tyler Reese (Kennett Square, Pa, Unionville), Oswego closed the half with three goals to go into the break with an 8-2 lead.

The momentum for the host Lakers continued in the second half with six-straight goals before Houghton's Chandler Jones (Collegeville, PA, Spring-Ford HS) scored to make it 14-3. Phongsamouth tallied both of her scores in the final three minutes of the contest.

Kourtnie Franklin (Belfast, NY, Belfast HS), still getting acclimated to the goalie position, made 14 saves in net. In addition to adjusting to a new netminder, Houghton played without its two leading goal scorers, Jennifer Zacchigna (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora) and Amanda Zacchigna (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora).

The Lakers outshot the Highlanders, 40-13, had a 19-6 advantage in draw controls and a 25-13 edge in ground balls.

The Highlanders (3-7) travel to take on Hartwick on Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
