MENDON, N.Y. -- Senior Alison Tepas closed out her Nazareth tennis career Thursday by winning her final singles match in straight sets as Nazareth lost a non-conference tennis match to William Smith, 8-1, at Mendon Racquet Club.

Tepas improved to 20-4 in singles matches for 2013-14 with a 6-3, 7-6(7-5) triumph over William Smith's Sydney Arsenault to secure Nazareth's lone point. It marked Tepas' 63rd career singles win tying her with Andrea Gaddis for sixth place on Nazareth's all-time list for singles wins. Tepas also has 57 doubles wins, including 13 this season for a total of 120 career wins, also good for sixth place on Nazareth's all-time list.

"She's the most complete player that I've had here," said Nazareth Coach Paul Waida. "She's been able to handle everything that's been thrown at her in a very mature way."

Tepas is a four-time Empire 8 Conference all-star in both singles and doubles and last fall became the Golden Flyers' first state singles champion in 19 years as she won four matches, including an upset win over top-seeded Maite Vera Antelo of RIT.

"She has a lot of natural ability with no real faults," Waida said. "We will miss her dearly."

In Thursday's match, William Smith improved to 10-2 overall by winning the other five singles matches as well as all three doubles contests. Junioor Elizabeth Crane played the closest singles match as she lost in a tiebreaker at #5 over the Herons' Kelley Hartmann 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.
