UTICA
The Utica College men's track and field teams wrapped up its final competition before the Empire 8 Championships at the Coach P Open hosted by Moravian College over the weekend.
Junior
Corey Zlatniski (Mattituck, NY/Mattituck) continued his solid surge with a second place finish in the 800 meter run as he clocked a final time of 1:55.17. Zlatniski broke another school-record with his ECAC qualifying performance. This marks consecutive weeks that the reigning Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Week shattered a UC program record.
Sophomore
Sam Anderson (Brantingham, NY/South Lewis) and freshman
Josh Lee (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) paced the Pioneers in the distance events as Anderson grabbed sixth place, out of 37 racers, in the 1,500 meter (4:09.34) and Lee placed fifth, out of 12, in the 5,000 (16:23.92). Senior
Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) took third in the 110 meter hurdles with a watch of 15.40.
In the field on the men's side, sophomore jumper
Rob Tutein (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) recorded a leap of 1.98 meters in the high jump finishing in a seven-way tie for second place while freshman counterpart
Rayshawn Scott (Mays Landing, NJ/Buena Regional) took third in the triple jump with a soar of 14.05. Both qualified for ECAC's with their performances
Freshman thrower
Sam Bonk (Williamsville, NY/Clarence) recorded a toss of 13.54 meters in the shot put while classmate
Andrew Russell (Watertown, NY/Watertown) flung the discus 42.39 meters for a sixth place tally.
ITHACA
The Ithaca College men's track & field team competed Saturday at the Moravian Coach P Invitational and the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic. Ithaca student-athletes had 18 top-10 finishes at Moravian.
The Bombers met three ECAC qualifiers at Bucknell.
Sawyer Hitchcock placed 15th out of 43 competitors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:31.14.
Stephen Gomez and
Sean Phillips raced to finishes of 15:08.08 and 15:09.84, respectively, to place 25th and 28th in the 5,000 run.
At Moravian,
De'Marquis Graves placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 13.62 meters to meet the ECAC standard. He also placed ninth in the long with a leap of 6.38 meters.
Andrew Brandt was the high jump runner up having cleared 1.98 meters to surpass the ECAC qualifier.
Ithaca had three additional top-10 finishes in the field events.
Jarrod Monacelli cleared 4.40 meters in the pole vault to finish third, while
Christian Stremmel and
Jevaughn Gibbs had heaves of 41.29 and 39.71 meters, respectively, to place seventh and 10th in the hammer throw.
A pair of Ithaca relays hit ECAC times. The Bombers' 4x400 relay of
Mason Mann,
Jordan Smith,
Matt Femia and
Brennan Edmonds placed second in 3:22.61, while Ithaca's team of Barrett,
Aaron Matthias,
Kevin Davis and
Jeff Hejna ran third in the 4x100 with a time of 42.57.
Femia, Smith and Edmonds all placed in the 400. Femia clocked in at 50.19 to place fifth, Smith at 50.90 to finish eighth and Edmonds in 51.47 to earn 10th.
Barrett crossed the finish line of the 100 in 11.24 to place fifth. Davis followed in seventh in 11.31. Barrett also ran sixth in the 200 and Matthias 10th with times of 22.80 and 22.90.
Larkin Bohanan earned bronze in the 800 run with a time of 1:57.39. Mann was right on his heels with a fourth-place finish of 1:57.67.
Brendan Davis placed seventh in the 1,500 with a finish of 4:09.45.
NAZARETH
Several Golden Flyer Stadium and Nazareth school records were broken Saturday as Nazareth hosted the ROC City Invitational.
Sophomore throwers
Luis Rivera and
Brandon Vuolo continued their assault on the Nazareth record book as they set marks in the hammer throw, discus and shot put. Rivera finished third in the hammer throw and the discus with heave of 47.98 meters (157 feet, 5 inches) and 39.53 meters (129 feet, 8 1/4 inches) respectively. Vuolo was third in the shot put with a distance of 13.34 meters (43 feet, 9 inches). Sophomore
Khiary Gayle also broke his own school record in the triple jump as he placed second with a leap of 13.57 meters (44 feet, 6 1/4 inches).
Senior
Jake Lafaver won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.52. His twin brother Zack finished sixth in 2:00.05.
ST. JOHN FISHER
Kyle Barry continued to rewrite the record books as the St. John Fisher College men's outdoor track and field team competed at the ROC City Classic on Saturday hosted by Nazareth College.
Barry smashed the program record in the javelin and hit the A standard for the upcoming NYSCTC Championships with a throw of 48.10 meters – good for second place overall.
Kyle Blessing placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 40.71, while teammate
Kyle Koehler placed 12th overall in the event with a season-best mark of 36.40 meters which met the A standard for NYSCTC. Koehler also placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 12.49 meters.
Joe D'Agostino took home a second place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.36 meters and again in the 200 meter dash after completing the race in 22.99.
James McDowell finished seventh in the 400 in 51.78, while
Dylan Cassidy placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles.

James Koch and D'Agostino fared well in the 400 relay, finishing in fourth place with a time of 43.87.
ALFRED
The Alfred University men's outdoor track and field competed Saturday at the Westminster College Invitational, placing eighth out of 13 teams.
AU athletes turned in several solid performances, paced by four runners placing in the top 15 in the 1,500-meter run. Senior
Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) took second in 4:05.74; senior
Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing) was fifth in 4:11.66; sophomore
Ethan Foster (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) as 12
th in 4:25.97; and freshman
Luke Tesoriero (Cortland, NY/Homer) was 14
th in 4:26.46.
Junior
Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) was fourth in the javelin (51.58 meters); sophomore
Dave Bennett (Medford, NY/Longwood)was sixth in the 400-meter run (51.48); freshman
Kevin Dixon (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) was sixth in the 5,000-meter run (16:57.62); and junior
Lucas Marshall(Windsor, NY/Windsor) was sixth in the discus (38.41 meters)
Other top performers for the Saxons included: freshman
