On Friday morning, St. John Fisher College student-athletes participated in The Giant Read for the fourth consecutive year.  The student-athletes traveled to the Joseph C. Wilson Foundation Academy to read the book "Galimoto" by Karen Lynn Williams.  The book is about a boy named Kondi, who is determined to make a galimoto -- a toy vehicle made of wires.

Over 40 Fisher student-athletes read with children in K-2nd grade, made their own galimoto out of pipe cleaners, and participated in other classroom activities.  All three grades then proceeded to the gym and participated in relay races with the Fisher student-athletes.

Known as the Giant Read, the annual event is part of the READ: Hope in Action Program - that is designed to promote literacy in the Rochester City School District.

The trip was organized by Fisher's Student-Athlete-Advisory-Committee, and is part of a much larger effort as other Rochester area universities visit local schools as well.
