BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (April 13, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's golf team shot a 306 Sunday in the NYU/Manhattantville Invitational, good for the second lowest score in school history.
The score was one stroke off the mark set in September of 2012, when the Ducks shot a 307 in the Penn State Harrisburg Classic. As a team, the Ducks finished the two-day tournament in eleventh place at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, N.J.
Junior
Cameron Hill shaved 12 strokes off his day-one score, shooting a 74 to lead the team. Freshman
Frank Szucs shot a 75 for a two-day total of 153, good for a tie for twenty-second place overall. Elsewhere, junior
Justin Niemeier shot a 79 to finish thirty-ninth overall while senior
Richie Szeliga took six strokes off his day-one score with a 78.
Hill shot the lowest score of his season, while Niemeier and Szeliga each scored the second lowest of their seasons. Szucs currently leads the team in scoring with a 78.08 average.
Williams College took-home first place honors with an overall score of 590, while Middlebury College took second with a 591. Individually, Williams' Grant Raffel finished first overall with a 144.
"After a disappointing 327 in round one, the team played very well in round two with four players shooting in the 70s," head coach
Joe Stahley said. "The team's 306 is probably the best one round performance in team history, given the challenging nature of the Forest Hill Field Club."
The Ducks will not have much time to savor the performance, as they head to Lititz, Pa. tomorrow to compete in the Franklin and Marshall College Invitational. The team is set to tee-off at 12:30 p.m. Be sure to check stevensducks.com after the match for team results and recap.
