MOOSIC, Pa.—The University of Scranton men’s golf team’s bid to win its third straight Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational title fell short by five strokes Monday afternoon at Glenmaura National Golf Club.

The Royals entered the final day of competition in third place seven strokes back, but had to settle for a runner-up finish behind McDaniel College, which won the 36-hole tournament with a two-day total of 623.  

Scranton finished with 627, followed by Susquehanna University (639), York College of Pennsylvania (642), Swarthmore College (643), Moravian College (655), Marywood University (659), King’s College (660), Muhlenberg (662), Gettysburg (663), and Wilkes University and Misericordia University, both of which tied for 11th place with 725.

Scranton received top-five individual finishes from senior Charles Hudacek and junior Erik Meyer.  Hudacek fired a 78 today to finish alone in second place with a 152 while Meyer carded a three-over par 74 today to tie for third-place with 154.  Sophomore Ryan Brown tied for 15th at 159 and sophomore Eric Montella tied for 24th at 163.

Susquehanna sophomore Daniel Wilson shot a 76 on Monday and placed sixth overall with his two-day score of 156 (80, 76). Stephen Welkie was just one shot behind with his score of 157 (73, 84) to tie for seventh overall in the 57-golfer field.

Anthony Canarie shot a 163 (82, 81) while Kevin Phelan and Dylan Gladd both shot 171 on the par 71, 6308-yard course.

Moravian sophomore Jim Maru paced the Greyhounds with a 36-hole score of 158 after a 77 on Monday on the par 72 course. Maru was tied for 12th of the 59 golfers in the tournament. Sophomore Evan Dickinson was 19th overall with a 161, and he also fired a 77 in Monday morning's round. Freshman Dan Leppert was tied for 20th at 162 with his low round of 80 coming on Sunday while senior Eric Schultz finished in a tie for 43rd with a 174 including an 86 Sunday afternoon. Freshman Dan Loughlin rounded out the Moravian lineup with a 200.

Brian Norwitz of McDaniel College shot back-to-back 75s to win the individual title with a total of 150.  

The Empire 8 teams will return to action this Friday and Saturday, April 18-19 for the third and fourth rounds of the Empire 8 Conference championships to be held at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
