25th-Ranked Ithaca Falls 6-0 At Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The 25th-ranked Ithaca College baseball team dropped a 6-0 game at the University of Rochester on Wednesday. Rochester improved to 15-12 on the season and Ithaca is 19-6. The Bombers will face 13th-ranked St. John Fisher in a four-game weekend series with doubleheaders Friday and Saturday at Fisher.
The Yellowjackets hosted the game at Towers Field, but batted as the visiting team in the top of each inning as the game was originally scheduled to be played Tuesday at Ithaca. Rochester scored three runs in the fourth and added three in the fifth.
Ithaca's best scoring chance came in the bottom of the ninth when the Bombers loaded the bases with one out, but Rochester induced a game-ending double-play ball in the infield to extinguish the rally.
Ithaca had four hits in the game, two of those coming from
Colby Gee and the others were from
Josh Savacool and
Cooper Belyea.
Ithaca starting pitcher
Zach Pidgeon took the loss (0-2) in four innings of work. He allowed three runs, but none were earned.
It's the first time Ithaca has been shut out since the end of the 2012 season, an NCAA Regional loss at Farmingdale.
