Fisher Wins 2014 Men's Golf Empire 8 Championship Title

The eighth-ranked St. John Fisher College men's golf team captured its fourth straight Empire 8 Golf Championship and ninth in the last ten years on Saturday at the par 71 Hershey Golf Country Club in Pennsylvania.  The Cardinals shot a combined 302 in Saturday's final round to finish with a four-day total of 1204, defeating runner-up University of Scranton (E8 affiliate member), who closed out with a final score of 1230.

As the Empire 8 champion Fisher receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship May 13-16 in Greensboro, NC.

Fisher also cleaned up the individual awards. Senior Thad Wier shot a 77 on Saturday, finishing with a four-round total of 303 (73-74-79-77). Wier, who posted the tournament's lowest overall score, was named as the Empire 8 Conference's Player of the Year for the second straight season.


Fellow teammate Hogan Cuny was named as the Empire 8's Rookie of the Year.  The freshman finished the tournament with a 305 (75-76-74-80).
