Ithaca Falters at Hamilton, Falls 15-8

CLINTON, N.Y. – The 16th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (10-5) saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end with a 15-8 setback at Hamilton (6-8) Tuesday afternoon.  
 
Ithaca opened the game with a strong three-goal showing in the first five minutes of play. Hamilton broke its scoring silence before the Bombers took a 4-1 lead at 20:49. The Continentals closed out the half with a dominating nine-goal performance, including a pair in the final 38 seconds of play.
 
The Bombers netted a trio of scores to open the second frame and cut within 10-7 at the 21-minute mark, but the host Continentals answered with five consecutive. Sophomore Riley Marion put away one final goal with 31 ticks lingering in the game for a 15-8 final.
 
Sophomore Ally Runyon paced the Bomber offense with a hat trick. Senior Becky Guzzo dished out a pair of assists and junior Molly Fischer had two points on one goal and one assist. Marion, juniors Natalie Lang and Delaney Gilson and freshman Morgan Cadwell accounted for Ithaca's other four scores. Marion had a game-best five draws and Lang chipped in three.
 
Freshman Emily Ross took the loss in goal making two saves in the first half of action. Senior Brittany Romano stopped five shots in the latter half.
 
Hamilton outshot Ithaca 28-17 and led draw controls 15-10. The Continentals edged Ithaca 16-14 in ground balls. The Bombers committed 11 second-half turnovers to lead the count 16-13.
 
Ithaca will play its final regular-season contest on Thursday, April 24 hosting Utica for senior day at 4 p.m.
