NAZARETH 17, Alfred 5
Sophomore Carly Gates scored a career-best four goals and added one assist and freshman Kate Rothrock had three goals and two assists for visiting Nazareth Wednesday as the Golden Flyers won easily over Alfred, 17-5, in an Empire 8 Conference women's lacrosse game at Yunevich Stadium. The victory evened Nazareth's overall record at 7-7 and clinched a spot in next month's E8 Tournament.

The Golden Flyers, now 4-2 in conference play, can be seeded as high as third with a home-field win Saturday against Stevens in the teams' final regular-season game at 12 p.m. Alfred is 1-10 overall and 0-6 in the E8. The conference tournament is May 3-4.

Nazareth dominated Wednesday's game from the outset, scoring five times before the game was 11 minutes old with five different players converting. Brooke Sullivan scored just 36 seconds into the game and Amy McIntosh made it 2-0 four minutes later. The next three goals came in a stretch of 1:04 as Gates, Kelsey McNaboe and Alex McFaddin each converted to make it 5-0.

Alfred scored at the 18-minute mark to break the shutout, but Nazareth scored five more times to go up 10-1 at the half. Sullivan, McNaboe and Gates each scored again, while freshman Hayley Spoljaric and junior Brianna Mancini also scored.

Gates scored two more times in the second half, while Rothrock scored all three of her goals. McIntosh and Spoljaric also scored again.

Nazareth had a 34-18 edge in shots and won 14 draws, including six by Sullivan. Tara Prosak had four saves in the first half, while Ashley Kirch made two saves in the second.


ST. JOHN FISHER 17, Houghton 3
The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-3 victory over host Houghton College on Wednesday after scoring 11 first half goals.

With the win Fisher improves to 10-4 overall, while the Highlanders fall to 4-6.

Fisher established control from the start scoring the first six goals of the game.  Lindsey Shoales got things started for Fisher three minutes into the contest off a feed from Jordan Johnson.  

Neither squad would score over the next seven minutes until Bridget Alberts took a pass from Samantha Barton to push the Cardinals lead to 2-0.  Over the next seven minutes Fisher would net four more tallies including Kristina Lombard capping off the run to give the visitors a 6-0 advantage.

After Houghton netted its first goal of the contest at the 10:47 mark Fisher would respond with the final five goals of the half beginning with Sierra Badger scoring off a feed from Abbie Reed.

Barton scored Fisher's final goal of the half with just :01 second remaining off a free position shot as the Cardinals led 11-1 at the break.

In the second half, Badger who had a game-high five tallies, scored two of the first three Fisher goals of the half to push the lead to 14-1 five minutes in.

Danielle Falck also added a season-high two goals in the second half for Fisher.

Johnson dished out a game-high four assists in the win to go along with one goal while Shoales and Alberts each notched two goals.

Nicole Hart and Caroline Trpcevski each played a half for Fisher with Hart picking up the win to improve to 2-0 on the year.
