Houghton Rallies To Salvage Split With Cardinals

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College baseball program split its doubleheader on Friday at Houghton College.   Fisher, ranked No. 22 nationally, won the first game 11-2, but gave up five runs in the bottom of the eighth in the nightcap and suffered an 11-9 loss in game two.  

Game One: Fisher 11, Houghton 2

Sean Badger pitched all seven innings, allowing just four hits, while striking out nine to raise his record to 3-0 on the year.   Fisher scored four in the second and four in the fourth to take command. 

Leadoff-hitter Joe Simmons went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.   Mike Fahy tallied two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Cody Wiktorski also finished with two hits, while Mike Roman and Chris Roeder both scored twice.

Nick Flemister and Malcolm Kelsey each drove in two runs with Kelsey smacking a two-run homer in the fourth.
 
Game Two: Houghton 11, Fisher 9

Fisher jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with Simmons homering in the game's first at-bat, but Houghton scored three in the three in both the third and fourth inning and led 6-4 after five innings.   The Cardinals tied it up at 6-6 in the sixth and led 7-6 in the top of the eighth, but Houghton erupted for five runs on five hits and two errors to take an 11-7 lead.   The Cardinals scored two in the ninth and sent the tying run to the plate, but couldn't get any closer.
 
Flemister went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Roman added three hits and two runs.   Brad Rush drove in three runs on two hits, including a solo home run.
