Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Performs Well

STEVENS
The Stevens Institute of Technology men's outdoor track & field program was in action on Saturday at The College of New Jersey Invitational on Saturday in Ewing, N.J. No team scoring was recorded at the meet and competition was cut short due to weather.

Senior Michael Cahill (Clark, N.J.) topped the field in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:36.70. Cahill won by nearly six seconds in the event that consisted of 25 runners.

Junior Robert Pinto (Staten Island, N.Y.) took fourth overall in the high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters and ran on the fifth place 4x100-meter relay team. Pinto ran the final leg of the relay that posted a time of 44.27 seconds and was made up of senior Walter Goodwin (Floral Park, N.Y.), sophomore Tom Halloran (Oakland, N.J.) and freshman Brian Fratto (Winchester, Mass.).

Pinto also placed eighth in the long jump with a distance of 6.41 meters.

Freshman Owen Burke (Elizabeth, N.J.) measured out 50.87 meters in the javelin to finish seventh overall, while sophomore Kristopher Trautz (Newton, N.J.) claimed 10th in the 5K with a time of 16:34.43. Freshman Guido Porcelli (Congers, N.Y.) also finished 10th in the shot put with a mark of 12.42 meters.

Junior Kevin Barresi (Little Silver, N.J.) and freshman Nicholas Zickgraf (Kenilworth, N.J.) both placed 12th in the 5K and 800-meter race, respectively. Barresi clocked a time of 16:42.26, while Zickgraf raced a time of 1:58.04.

NAZARETH
Nazareth's men's track and field team was in action again on Saturday when the Golden Flyers traveled to the University of Rochester for the Spring Invitational. Several athletes turned in personal bests. Senior Jake Lafaver claimed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of :50.75.

Sophomores Luis Rivera and Brandon Vuolo continued to break their personal bests in the throwing events. Both throwers set personal bests in the hammer with Rivera breaking a school record with his third-place 49.78 meters mark (163 ft., 3 3/4 in.), which beat his previous best of 47.98 meters. Vuolo's prior personal best was 39.87 meters that he set at the Empire 8 Championships last week. Vuolo recorded a throw of 44 meters (144 ft., 4 1/4 in.) for fifth place. Vuolo was also second in the shot (12.82 meters; 42 ft., 3/4 in.).

Additional top performers in the men's meet included senior Zack Lafaver, who took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.51. Freshman Jenoy Merchant was fourth in the 400-meters (:53.26), and classmate Richardson Pierre set a personal best in the 100-meters with a sixth-place finsih of :11.61 to edge his prior best of :11.69. Nazareth's 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays each took third. The 4x100 team, composed of Pierre, classmate Jenoy Merchant, and sophomores Khiary Gayle and Clement Mutambo, finished in :45.52. The 4x400 team, consisting of the Lafaver brothers, Merchant and freshman Jacob Murray finished with a time of 3:30.51.

Sophomore Patrick Neureuter added a 12th-place finish in the 5-kilometer run (17:07) while Murray and senior Matt Fedrizzi recorded 10th (2:04.72) and 11th-place (2:04.76) finishes, respectively in the 800.


ST. JOHN FISHER
The St. John Fisher College men's track and field team took part in the Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday hosted by the College at Brockport at Schriver Stadium.
 
The 4x100 relay team of William Sterriker, Eric RileyDevin Cornelius and Joe D'Agostino earned a fourth place finish after completing the race in 43.94.
 
The Cardinals would take third place in the 4x400 relay with Riley, Owen MoffettDylan Cassidy and Robert Battaglia finishing the race in 3:41.9.
 
Tyler Wilkie finished fifth place overall in the 400 meter dash after winning his heat with a time of 55.86, while Malcolm Fowler captured a 15th place finish in the same event. 
 
James McDowell placed eighth in the 200 meter dash, while Moffett finished in 15th place and Fowler took 16th.
 
Evan Magnussen broke his own school record and finished in 11th place in the 1500 meter run after crossing the finish line in 4:12.6.  Dan Cleary wasn't far behind, finishing in 23rd place with a time of 4:21.38.  Fisher performed well in the 5000 meter run also as Sam Harbol finished in fourth place in 16.40.07.  Jose Ramos was right on his heels, claiming sixth place overall.
 
The Cardinals fared well in the 110 hurdles as well.  Chris Wehner narrowly missed breaking his own record after finishing in third place with a mark of 15.89, while Sterriker took home a fourth place result with a time of 16.59.
 
In the 400 meter hurdles, Fisher earned the top-two spots as Cassidy and Battaglia finished first and second in the event, respectively.
 
In the field, Zach Hemminger finished eighth overall in the long jump with a leap of 5.93 meters.  Hemminger would later take fifth place in the triple jump at 12.18 meters, whileKyle Barry finished in 13th place in the hammer throw with a heave on 37.91 meters.
 
In the shot put, Kyle Koehler finished fourth overall with a mark of 13.34 meters and Tyler Darby placed 15th with a toss of 10.09 meters.
 
Kyle Blessing finished second in the discus and nearly broke his own record with a throw of 43.32 meters.


UTICA
The Utica College track and field teams traveled to SUNY Brockport on Saturday for the Golden Eagle Invitational. 
 
In the 100m dash, Trevor Gibson (Youngstown, OH/Springfield) finished fourth overall and second in his heat with a time of 11.49, while teammate Christian St. Amour(Syracuse, NY/Westhill) had a time of 11.63, placing seventh. 
 
Kyle Moffatt (Broadalbin, NY/Galway) picked up a fourth place finish in the 400m dash (56.88) and Corey Zlatniski (Mattituck, NY/Mattituck) finished fifth in the 1500m run with a final time of 4:02.26.  The Pioneers picked up a second place finish in the 110m hurdles as Frank Volino finished in 15.34, followed by Andrew Hoover (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) in fifth with a time of 16.76, while the Pioneer 4x400m relay team took second (3:33.33).
 
Utica faired well in the field events as the Pioneers collected three first place finishes.  In the men's high jump, Rayshawn Scott (Mays Landing, NJ/Buena Regional) took first place with his leap of 1.85m.  Scott also took first in the triple jump with a distance of 14.27.  Andrew Russell (Watertown, NY/Watertown) won the discus throw with a distance of 43.87.  In the shot put, Sam Bonk (Williamsville, NY/Clarence) took third with a hurl of 13.84m. 
 

ALFRED
Alfred University junior Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) won the javelin throw to lead the AU men's outdoor track and field team at the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational Saturday.

ker, who set a new school record in the javelin at last weekend's Empire 8 Conference championships, won at Brockport with a throw of 55.96 meters, which met ECAC qualifying standards.
 
Three Saxons placed in the top 15 in the shot put. Sophomore Ian Bishop (Bronx, NY/Bronxwood Prep) placed fifth (12.66 meters); junior Lucas Marshall (Windsor, NY/Windsor) was ninth (11.87 meters); and sophomore Joshua Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) was 14th (10.11 meters).
 
Freshman Jeffery Nunez (Wurtsboro, NY/Ellenville) was 11th in the discus (36.23 meters) and 10th in the hammer throw (36.68 meters), while Marshall took 15th in the discus (32.77 meters).


HOUGHTON
Josiah Evans finished second in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.27 and third in the high jump (1.74 meters) to lead the Highlanders at the University of Rochester Invite on Saturday..

Jacob Dunnett tossed the javelin 42.32 meters, which was good enough for a second place result.
