HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 3, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team announced Thursday that they raised over $1700 for breast cancer research last week during their participation in the Strikeout Cancer Campaign.
"We want to thank all those who participated in the fundraiser that helped to make it a great success," head coach Erica Mehalick said.

Donors had the option of either making a flat donation, or pledging per-strikeout. The Ducks went undefeated on the week (6-0) with doubleheader sweeps over New Jersey City University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, College at Florham, and St. John Fisher College. During that time the pitching staff tallied 32 strikeouts.

The week culminated with Saturday's games against St. John Fisher where the team wore pink throughout the day, as well as accepted donations and sold cupcakes with all proceeds from the game going toward the campaign. Mehalick's mother Lucille was also on hand to throw-out the ceremonial first-pitch.

Winners of nine in-a-row, the Ducks are off to their best start in school history at 14-4. Stevens will travel to up-state New York this weekend with doubleheaders against Alfred University on April 5 starting at 1 p.m., and Houghton College at 1 p.m. on April 6.
